Introduction

When you mix a Siberian husky and a Dalmatian, you get a dog that is full of energy so you will definitely need to plan activities and games for your pup. Your playful and energetic dog is probably tough to keep up with as they are always on the go. However, you know they have a great loving side too and sometimes just want to snuggle up with you on the couch and relax. Try one of these games to play with your Dalmatian Husky and then plan a nice cuddle session shortly after!

Activity description

While many dogs have a tendency to dig (it is just in their nature), Huskies are known to be diggers. Since your pup is part Husky, chances are you have encountered this need to dig. Unfortunately, digging is not always a welcome activity for a domesticated pet. After all, as much as you love your dog, you don’t' want them digging up your backyard! Giving your Dalmatian Husky an outlet for this digging energy is a great idea and there are a few ways you can do this without destroying your landscaping! Some activities your dog can even do inside - perfect for those constantly digging dogs.

Step
1
Digging mat
Look into a digging mat that is specially designed for dogs who like to dig. Some mats have squeakers inside that will make noise as your pup paws at it while others are rough and similar to a cat scratching mat, intended to feel good on their paws. Pick one that you think your digger will like.
Step
2
Toy dig
Gather a bunch of stuffed toys for your dog (you can find some cheap toys at goodwill or any other donation store). Make a big pile for your pup and put a treat at the bottom. Watch as your dog digs through the toys search for the treat all the while getting out some pent up digging energy.
Step
3
Keep cool
Huskies tend to dig holes to lay in them in order to keep cool on a hot day. While you want your dog to be cool, they don't need to dig a hole to lay in when they have you! Get your dog a nice kiddie pool to help them cool off and relax in and save your yard from dog-made holes.

Activity description

Dalmatians are very playful and active dogs that require a lot of exercise. Huskies are a breed that may become overweight if not exercised properly. The answer to both personality traits (since you have a combination pup!) is to exercise of course! It is not only something your Dalmatian Husky needs to stay healthy but it is something they will truly enjoy doing. Of course, it is also great for you to get out there with your dog too, not just for exercise but for bonding purposes. While there are many ways to make sure your Dalmatian Husky gets their energy out, here are a few places you can start.

Step
1
Run or walk
If you are a runner, now is the time to grab your dog's leash and bring them on a run with you. A Dalmatian Husky is a great runner and will keep up with you for a few miles. If running isn't your thing, just go for a nice long walk. Just moving around and going a good distance is all your Dalmatian Husky needs.
Step
2
Frisbee
Frisbee is a perfect activity for your Dalmatian Husky. Not only will they get to run and chase a toy but they will also be running around a lot which means burning off some calories and energy. Grab a Frisbee and head to a park to get some good quality exercise for your pup.
Step
3
Dog park
You don't need to run with your dog when they can run free in a dog park! Not only is this a great place for some off-leash exercise but your dog also gets a chance to be social. Most Dalmatian Huskies are happy to be around other dogs so this is a double whammy - exercise and social time!

Sledding

Harness
Activity description

If you happen to live somewhere with an abundance of snow or at least a season of snow, take advantage of the winter weather and your Dalmatian Husky's natural love of snow (especially from the Husky side!). Sledding is a great activity for your dog as it will get them out in the environment that they love and it will also get out some of that extreme Dalmatian energy. Of course sledding is weather permitting and it can be a lot of training and hard work but in the end, you and your dog will absolutely love going sledding together.

Step
1
Gear up
Find some sledding gear for you and your pup. This will include a harness, a sled, a tow line and a waist belt (if you are planning on hitching yourself to your pup directly). You can find all you need online or do a little research and find a store nearby that will be able to fit your dog in person.
Step
2
Slow and steady
Begin by teaching your dog how to pull. You do not want to immediately strap them to a sled towing a person but rather introduce this idea slowly. Put your dog in the harness with the tow line attached and begin by having them pull an empty child's sled. Then add a little weight (a bag of sand for example) and keep working your way up. Go slow as to not hurt or discourage your Dalmatian Husky.
Step
3
Go!
Once your dog is comfortable pulling the weight of the sled and you, head out on a snowy trail for a great ride! Let your dog set the pace and remember to reward them and praise your pup for doing a great job. Your Dalmatian Husky will be tired at the end of a long sledding day for sure!

More Fun Ideas...

Spa Day

Dalmatian Huskies tend to be pretty big shedders so you may want to devote a little time with your pup grooming them. While this activity is beneficial to the cleanliness of your house, your dog will also love being pampered

Obedience Training

Both Huskies and Dalmatians are known to be 'free spirits' and not the easiest to train. Be sure to focus on training with your dog on a regular basis in order to tame this personality trait a little bit.

Conclusion

Dalmatian Huskies are not your average "sit around the house" type of dog and why would you want that anyway? Dogs are supposed to be fun and playful and that is exactly what you got with this breed. Make sure to enjoy your dog's energetic personality and give them the outlet for all that energy. Your dog will be happier and you will be happier as well when your dog spends the day having fun so that they can come home and relax with you.Â
