Activity description
If you are bringing your dog to Carlsbad Caverns National Park, you may quickly discover that pets are not allowed in the caverns themselves. Dogs are also not allowed in any of the park buildings or on trails around the park. However, this doesn't mean you have to leave your dog behind which you venture to New Mexico to go deep in the caverns! There is a highly rated, inexpensive dog kennel which you can opt to use for the day. Your pup can be dropped off anytime, you can quickly explore the park caverns and then pick up a happy, well cared for dog!
Step
1
Planning
The kennel near the national park is actually run by the parks department in an effort to accommodate your trip to the caverns. The Carlsbad Caverns Trading Company is where you can find the kennel and they are open every day of the week from 8:30am-4:30pm. There are no reservations and spots can fill up so you want to plan to arrive early to drop off your dog! It is a flat $10 rate for the day so a super affordable way to keep your pet safe and happy while you go to the caverns.
Step
2
Packing
If you plan on leaving your dog at the kennel, you want to bring a few things to make the spot feel like home. Pack your pup's dog bed along with some food, maybe even a toy or two to keep them busy while you explore the caverns. Dogs will be given fresh water but that is it! You will also need to bring proof that your dog has received a rabies shot so grab that documentation as well!
Step
3
Enjoy
While your dog takes a nice nap at the Carlsbad kennel, enjoy your trip exploring the caverns. Of course, you will be wishing that your dog was there with you but you can rest assured that they are being taken care of! Your dog would rather spend a few hours in a kennel than be left behind for your entire trip! See all the national park has to offer and then pick your dog up and go for a nice walk together.
