Activity description
This is a great activity, whether it’s just you and your dog or it’s a large crew of people and other animals. Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve gotten down and dirty in the wet mud. It’s time. Bring back childhood simple fun with Mud Wars. It’s a game of competition and laughter for sure. Time the game and examine the mud coatings when the alarm sounds. The person or pet left standing with the least amount of mud coating them has played well. They’ve dodged the muddy bullets and bombs and deserve a champion roll in the dirt.

Gear up
You’ll need old clothes and shoes and possibly even goggles or safety glasses for this messy activity. Because mud is flying all over the place, you never know where it will land. The point is to avoid being hit by the mud bombs, so the person (or dog) or team with the least mud on their body wins! Your dog will be awesome at this, so beware! They'll jump up, and those muddy paws can do some damage.

Split up and attack
Set a timer for 15 minutes at first, and see how things go. Split into teams: you vs. your dog, or you and your dog vs. a friend and their pet. The more the merrier, so feel free to invite others to play. You can initially hide behind trees or pre-built forts. You might even use trash can lids or pieces of wood for shields.

Let there be mud...
When time begins, let the mud fly. Unless you have a pond nearby, this has to be played on a rainy or still-wet day when there’s plenty of mud to go around. Be careful where you play. Choose a spot where landscaping isn’t very important. You’ll be messy, and the area you play in might need a month’s recovery after you’re finished running around and scooping up loose mud bombs.

We feel so trapped on rainy days, but the truth is that mud is out there waiting for us. If you’re doggo adores mud, then consider heading outdoors when the lightning and thunder have gone. Rain won’t hurt you, although a cold rain may not be the best for you. You can always wait for the rain to end, and we recommend that. There’s always plenty of water left. Even if you only have time for a quick half-hour trail, a super-soaked one can be ridiculously fun and memorable. There’s something therapeutic about mud. It’s exfoliating and freeing. You’re filthy and truly alive when you’re covered in mud. Just as your pooch! They’ll surely agree with a happy, wagging tail!

Choose a trail
Do your research. More than likely, you already know of some trails in your area. But it’s raining or has been, so choose a flat trail. You’re after the puddles and mud, not the uphill battles and rock climbing. Save those for a dry afternoon. We want you and your pet to be safe first and foremost.

Have a splash
The point isn’t to walk a great distance or conquer a challenging trail. The point is to enjoy the mud on this wet day. So find the puddles! Roll around in them if you feel like it. Let your dog play, and play with them. They’ll have a blast with you. They know when you’re having fun, and you can help them see it by being thrilled with the simple act of jumping in puddles.

Warm up and cuddle afterward
Maybe one of the best parts about getting so muddy and dirty is that afterward, you get to be clean again. End the day with a couch cuddle. Get warm and cozy. Read aloud to your pup, or watch a movie together. You might even take a nap. Sweet dreams (about mud, of course)!

Step into the kitchen for this next activity! Since your dog likes mud so much, we bet they’ll also “dig” this Dried Mud Pie. And when we say dried mud, we mean peanut butter. What else? It’s only the best kind of light brown, dried mud out there. You’ll need organic peanut butter, plain Greek yogurt, cream cheese, bananas, coconut oil, dog treats, and pie tins. These are going to be a hit. Believe me! They’ll look like a pile of mud, dirt, and gravel, but your fur child will smell the delight and taste it, too. Can a good boy or girl say YUM?

Mix it up
You can find specific recipes all over the Internet, but basically, use your own judgment. You can’t go wrong with these ingredients. Mix them in a bowl by hand, and then spoon them over into the pie tins. You might want to place these in the fridge or freezer so they can set. Or leave them loose and gooey! Whatever your pup prefers is just fine with us.

Walk in the Rain
When it rains, the world comes to life with new smells and sights. Everything grows muddy around you, and your dog will like splashing, watching animals, and sniffing the wet earth during a shower. Be sure it’s safe; no thunder and lightning should be in or around your neighborhood or city street.

Use a plastic kiddie pool for this. Fill up the pool with a hose, and add dirt as you go. Swirl it up, and your doggo has the mud bath they’ve been dreaming of, even if the rain has been sparse and drought plagues your area.
