Introduction

Native to Indonesia and the Bali Island region, the Kintamani dog is rarely found in other parts of the world. The breed is quite attractive, and looks almost like a white malamute. This distinct breed is extremely inquisitive and alert, which is why they are such an amazing guard dog. They love to climb up walls and even enjoy basking in the sun upon a roof or garden wall. They also are very light walkers, so they move around very gracefully and smoothly. Kintamani dogs also love water, so swimming is something they are great at and enjoy as well!

Activity description

Obedience classes are a great way to get the mind and body in shape! Your Kintamani is known to be a protection dog, and an ideal one to boot. However, protection dogs (or guard dogs) may be overly protective of their humans and their territory. This is why obedience training is a very, very good idea. Obedience training may be a few times per week, or just once a week, but either way is an activity that your dog and your family will most definitely benefit from. When obedience training is combined with the physical activities, your dog will be well-rounded and will show constraint when needed.

Step
1
Find a training class
When you research dog trainers, be sure to try and find one that specializes in guard dogs and knows their unique personalities. You may wish to enroll your Kintamani in a group setting to allow for a little socialization with other dogs, or in an individual training session. You will know what is best for your dog!
Step
2
Keep consistent
Try not to miss an obedience training session. When you sign up for dog obedience training, it is a commitment. It is not long-term; however, there are several sessions that you need to stay consistent with. Be an active “student” with your dog so you can practice what is taught each day, or even several times a day.
Step
3
Practice during activities
During your physical activities, take a little time to practice what your dog has learned. Continue to reward your dog for being successful, and if your dog is having a little difficulty, don’t give up. However, remember to have fun romping and playing with your dog; just having fun together doing other activities is important as well!

Activity description

Your Kimani loves to climb, so why not challenge them to some exciting climbing activities? There are dog parks that are adorned with climbing mounds, boulders, bridges, and walls, but are you fortunate enough to live close to one? If you aren’t, there are ways to stimulate your Kintamani’s love of climbing. You may need to do some research, but chances are you will find a way to give your dog this opportunity. You may find a park with enormous rocks for climbing or you may wish to purchase dog climbing mounds or walls for your backyard. Either way, climbing activities will be appreciated and enjoyed by your active pup!

Step
1
Prepare your dog
Be sure to prepare your dog for any outing that involves boulder climbing. You will need a harness with a leash, an inflatable bowl, fresh water and treats. You may even wish to purchase “doggy booties” to help protect their paws from the harshness or heat of the boulders and rocks.
Step
2
Enjoy the climb
You may choose to take the lead and show your dog the way. Having you in the front will help you foresee any harsh conditions in terms of loose rocks, places where it may be difficult to get your footing, or any slippery spots. You may also choose to walk with your dog in the front, but close by, depending on your Kintamani’s experience.
Step
3
Enjoy the view
Once at the top, take time to relax and savor the special time with your dog. Be sure to give your dog water and maybe a treat or two. Stretch your legs a bit and pet and praise your companion, and prepare for the hike downward! Rock or boulder climbing is not only about the climb but about the bonding you and your dog will always treasure.

Activity description

Since this breed loves water, water games should be in the repertoire of activities. Just be sure you know your dog’s swimming abilities, and if you are in the teaching stage, be sure it is shallow water and a life jacket is worn. An all-time classic, “fetch” is such a fun game, you and your dog can do the activity together in the water. You may have a shallow pond or pool, or even a deeper one that they can swim in if they have the ability. In deep or shallow waters, they may even be able to dive after a toy! Not only will playing with your dog in the water be exhilarating for your pup, it will be for you as well. Swimming and romping in the water on a hot summer day is the perfect activity for your Kintamani!

Step
1
Find the ideal spot
You may be lucky enough to live close to a dog-friendly lake or shore, or you may even have a pool in your backyard. If you are looking around for a good spot, be sure to check on the rules for pet owners. Also, be sure to steer clear of water that is stagnant, as well as highly-weeded areas. The last thing your will need is for your dog to encounter parasites or a snake! Find a safe, dog-friendly area that is free of blue-green algae, debris, and any type of trash. Avoid any fast-moving water, as well.
Step
2
Gather items and go
Be sure to take a life-vest, a bowl, clean water for your dog to drink, baggies for clean-up, and a harness with a leash. It is better to be prepared for a fun and safe day out with your Kintamani, and you will have peace of mind if situations arise. Put the dog retrieving toys in a bag and take your dog to the swimming spot. It may be your backyard pool, a pond you are very familiar with, or the lake.
Step
3
Have fun!
Your dog may immediately jump in and swim, and wait for the first toy to be tossed for your dog to “go get!” or catch. Spending time with your Kintamani in the water may be just what you and your pal need on a hot, sunny day. While you are in the water with your dog, throw an item and have your dog “go get it!” and retrieve it back to you. Change up the items often for extra stimulation. Be sure to watch for signs of fatigue, and if your pet is a weak or new swimmer utilize the life vest.

More Fun Ideas...

The Flirt Pole

This is a pole with a fun object on the end of it. It almost looks like a fishing pole! You can wave it at your dog and then quickly flip it up and watch your dog jump. Swing it around and back and forth and watch your dog romp after it and bark up a storm! These poles can be purchased at your local pet store or you may choose to make your own.

Water Play

Yes, your dog may love the water, but it is not always necessary to pack for a day trip to the lake. You can create enticing water activities in your own backyard. Your Kintamani may enjoy the sprinkler, a mid-sized pool, a hose, all coupled with fun backyard dog toys. It is perfectly fine to have a fun time romping and getting wet on a hot summer day, and the Frisbee and balls make it even more exciting.

Conclusion

Kintamani dogs are a very intelligent breed of dogs who love various activities. They are also excellent guard dogs who need activities that will stimulate their mind and body. Your Kintamani will be appreciative of the time spent together and, being a very loyal protector, will give back in return. Enjoy your rare breed of dog!
