Mudhol Hounds are able to tolerate all types of weather and work while walking and running over harsh terrain. Lure coursing is really the best way to have your hound do what can be done best in a natural setting!

One sport that is gaining popularity in the canine world of sport is known as dock diving. Dock diving is a competitive sport that measures the length of a jump off of a dock into a body of water, as well as the height of a jump. Dogs compete against each other during structured competitions. If you are not considering making dock diving a competitive sport for your dog, you can just have your dog jump into water. Your dog may enjoy jumping off of a dock to fetch a Frisbee or water toy!

Find a safe body of water

If you know of a safe body of water in which you are familiar with that has a sturdy dock, you have already completed this step! If you do not know of a location to take your hound dock diving, ask around! Contact your local hound group, dock diving organization (usually found online), trainer, or others that are getting into the sport of dock diving.

Practice consistently

Be sure your dog is used to the water before seeing if your dog will actually jump into it. Also, be sure to always watch your dog and make sure that a fitted life vest is being worn at all times. Let your dog get onto the dock and you get in the water to show your dog where to jump. You can command your hound to "come on" or "jump" and see if your dog will indeed do so. If you would like to take it slowly, see if your dog will jump into the water from just the ground on the side.
