Introduction

The Samoyed, or Samoiedskaya Sobaka, is probably the cutest doggo in the world. Activity description

Flyball is one of the dog sports that Samoyeds excel at due to their nature and love for sporty activities. The competitive game includes dogs racing against each other to the finish line, jumping over hurdles and capturing the tennis ball. It is usually run in teams of four, although you can do that only with your doggo as a fun activity for the weekend. However, if you want your baby to compete, you’ll be happy to hear that there are numerous teams and associations all over the world that can help you train your dog and make them a champion.

Fetch first!

First of all, you need to teach your pup to play the game. Bring them to your local flyball track, and start teaching. You should teach your pup to catch the ball first, and you can do this at home. Play fetch with them for about half an hour each day so they can learn how to properly catch the ball in the game.

Add some hurdles to your fetch game to spice it up. At home, place a hurdle in front of your doggo and throw the ball over it. Your pup should jump over and retrieve the ball, learning how to jump over hurdles in the process.

When the temperature falls below zero, your dog cannot be happier, and when you think the snow will devour the whole planet, your pup is actually in heaven. Samoyeds love mushing, and they love to exercise their muscles by pulling something, so this activity can be perfect in the super snowy weather when you just want to have fun, or go to the store with your doggo.

Prepare with quality

Get a good harness. We cannot stress this enough, the harness has to be good quality and comfortable for your dog. Since your Samoyed will be pulling a substantial amount of weight, the harness must not hurt them in the process, so look for a reputable brand to keep your doggo safe.

Teach commands

Before venturing onto your mushing adventure, teach your pup how to pull on command. Have them pull something, like a piece of wood or an old tire. Encourage your pup to pull the object and use the command Mush! to teach them to pull on command. Once they learn how to pull a tire, you can upgrade to a small sled and teach the other necessary commands.

Skijoring is similar to a mush game in many ways, however, instead of sleds, you would use skis. Skijoring basically means “ski driving” and it is a popular sport in the Scandinavian region, especially suitable for doggos such as Samoyeds. As mentioned before, Samoyeds are winter dogs, and they absolutely adore any activity that includes pulling and snow. Including your pup in your skijoring activity is a great way to bond with them, as well as to get some exercise in the cold weather that usually forces you to stay indoors and longingly look outside the window waiting for the snow to melt.

Suit up

Before you get outside you need to make sure you are properly prepared. Get a good harness and have it fitted for your dog’s size. Let your pup get used to the harness by having them wear it for five or ten minutes at first and praise them when they manage to stay calm.

Once your pup is comfortable with a harness at home, take them for a long walk with the harness on. They should get used to the feeling of “pulling” you using the strength of their body instead of their neck where their leash usually is.
