Activities For Serbian Hounds

Serbian Hounds are well known as scent hounds, meaning that they use scent, rather than sight to hunt. They are, generally speaking, hunting dogs, used for centuries in the Balkan area in the age-old practice of chasing rabbits, pheasants, foxes, and various other animals for both food and protection of livestock. Many hunters use Serbian Hounds even when hunting larger game such as deer and boar, and these doggos have proven themselves worthy in such ventures. However, you don’t have to be a hunter to play a scent game with your dog. All you need is some delicious food with an intoxicating scent, your doggo’s nose, and some creativity to have the best day ever!

Another way to engage your Serbian Hound’s fantastic olfactory senses is to play a little game of seeking. Not hide and seek per se, but something similar to it. Your dog probably has a toy that they don’t care too much about. Instead of trashing it, you can use it in a new and exciting game of scent trailing. When the actual smell is considered, you don’t have to smear food all over the toy; you can use essential oils such as anise, valerian, or lavender, to tickle your dog’s interest and tracking instincts. Just make sure that the oil you are using is dog-safe and it will not cause allergies or other health issues.

A rainy day can be quite dull, especially for an active doggo such as the Serbian Hound. However, you don’t have to be bored out of your mind even in bad weather. If going outside is not an option, except for pee breaks, having a bit of fun inside is your only option! You don’t have to sit around and force your dog to watch hours of documentaries they don’t care about; you can make the day entertaining for the both of you by setting up an obstacle course right in your home! Get up from the sofa, move some furniture, and prepare for a day of laughs with your beloved hound.
