The day outside is bleak, the rain is bucketing down and for the third time this week, you are going to have to miss taking your Toy Fox Terrier for their walk. You know what that means - an energetic puppy on your hands. But if you have a treadmill, then your problems are solved. Teach your dog how to walk on the machine; go slowly at first. Walk on it with them until they get their confidence. Keep the pace slow and easy at first, before increasing the pace. With this activity, your dog will always be able to have a walk each day. Make it a training time. Walk for five minutes then stop. Treat. And go again. Once they have the confidence you can increase the pace but never more than they can handle. And stay and supervise just in case. Better still, take turns on the treadmill and you will both benefit.

Dust off the treadmill
It's time to really use the treadmill the way it should be used. Turn it on and start getting your dog used to the machine. Step on it yourself going at the slowest pace ever and encourage your dog to join you. They may just jump on and right off again. That's fine, give them time to adjust to this new thing. Then, place them on the machine and sit at their side talking to them. Just go slow. It will be a new experience for them and they will take time to get used to the movement under their feet.

Adjust the speed dial
When they are fully confident on the machine, then you can turn the machine up just a little bit. Slowly, day by day, increase the time and the angle of the machine so your dog gets a good workout. Let them get off when they want to. Don't force them or they may come to fear the machine. Treat rewards really help motivate your dog so praise them for a job well done and give them a treat, and they will want to keep going.

You may find that you get motivated to use the treadmill yourself. Before long your dog will be racing you to see who gets the first go. The trick with a dog is to make a task fun. Activity description
Changing a bed can be made into a fun activity for your dog. As you take the pillowcases and the sheets off, give them to your dog to put in the laundry basket. The sheets will be a challenge and keep them busy. You can bury them in the bed and let them burrow their way out to play growl at you and then ask you to do it again. They will get to know that changing a bed is a fun task. Play fight with the pillows, but don't get too rough! To get them off the bed while you put new linen on, you can toss the ball under the bed, in the closet or wherever you can and your dog will race after it. Make sure your dog knows when the game is over though, or you will be remaking the bed.

Gather supplies
Get set up to change the bed. Grab fresh linen, and grab a basket and get your dog to drag the basket to the bedroom. Then start the change with a game; throw the blankets over your pup and watch them explode out of the bedding. This game could go on forever, but you have a bed to make!. After a bit of playtime, start stripping the bed and get your dog to take the old linen and put it in the basket. You may be surprised how helpful your pup is. They may struggle with the sheets so give them a hand and finish the chore with a treat.

Time for the ball
As you start to redo the bed in fresh linen, it is time to bring out the ball and toss it under the bed for your dog. That will keep them entertained although they will want you to re-toss it again and again.... and again. Try throwing it down the hall as you straighten the sheets. Then toss it into the closet while you straighten the cover. By that time your dog will be back again with the ball. Take the ball and get your dog to help you drag the basket to the laundry.

Wash, then hang
You can teach your dog to help you put the linen into a front loader washing machine. Now, it's time for more ball play until the load is done, and then you can carry it all out to the clothesline. This is where you can give your dog a basket full of pegs and teach them to give you a peg when you need it. If they can do all this, they will be one tired dog and they will have earned a treat. Doing the Dog Crawl
Teach your dog to crawl by getting down to their level and getting them to lie down. Then hold a treat just out of range of their mouth. If they raise up, take the treat away and repeat the order to lie down. Let them sneak forward on their tummy to get the treat. Before long they will be crawling along like a professional.
