Activities For Whoodles

While you will need a pair of comfortable running shoes, your Whoodle doesn't need much to get ready to run. A comfortable fitting collar or harness paired with a six foot leash will work. Skip the retractable long leashes so that your pup doesn't get too far ahead and you can keep them by your side, in full control.

When you and your Whoodle head out on your first run, don't make it too far or too fast. Just as you can't go out and run a marathon without training, your dog can't run too far without training as well. Make your first run short and sweet and set the pace based on how quickly your Whoodle is running. If they start to slow down, you should slow down as well. While your dog is an energetic pup, they may need a break after running the streets!

True, committed runners hit the streets every day and you and your Whoodle should be no different. Make it a habit to bring your pup for a run each day and you will quickly see how much calmer they are at home and how much better you feel after a nice run. Your Whoodle will also start to be able to run faster and further but always remember to be aware of how they are feeling as you run. If your pup needs a break, take one. If they aren't super excited to go for their daily run, maybe they need a day off. However, running frequently is a fun and simple way to get out some of that excess Whoodle energy!

In a dog pack, the leader always eats first. So, as the leader of your family, you need to make sure you eat first as well. Prepare your food and your dog's food as well and then make a point to eat first. When you are done, give your Whoodle their bowl. They still get delicious food but the subtle nature of eating first shows your pup that you are in charge.

The highest, tallest spot is reserved for the dog pack leader. In the case of your Whoodle at home, this means that the couch, the bed and any comfy chairs that are high off the ground belong to the leader - you! If your dog likes to jump up on the furniture, gently guide them toward a cozy dog bed or blankets on the floor. They will still be comfy but you will be in charge on your couch throne!

Dog leaders are always at the front of he pack, leading the way. This means that when you go for a walk or head out of your home, whoever is the leader should enter and exit first. Get your Whoodle on their leash but then hold them back as you take the first step out the door. As you can see, the leader doesn't need to be aggressive, just assertive and consistent to establish their rank.

If the weather is poor or you just feel like staying inside, invite a dog friend to come over to play with your Whoodle. Move furniture aside so they can run together and make sure to have lots of approved toys out. A pocket full of treats is also a great idea as it will make sure both dogs listen to you when called. Let the dogs run freely and play however they'd like in a safe and controlled environment.

Head to a fenced in area where your dog can play with their pup friend. Keeping the dogs fenced in prevents you from worrying about them escaping and you can focus on their levels of fun. Bring two tennis balls (one for each dog), a few treats and a bowl of fresh water if the weather is hot and sunny. Let the pups run off the leash and play like puppies!

If you don't have any dog friends able to come over to your house or meet up to play outside, head to a local dog park to find some friends. While the dog park dogs may be strangers, your Whoodle will have a great time meeting new pups. Keep an eye on your Whoodle while at the dog park and call them back to you frequently to ensure they remain in your control. If your dog is having a lot of fun with one specific pup, exchange info with their owner and make sure to set up a time to play again!
