American Bully, Bully Pitbull, Pitbull Bully

The Bullypit is a combination of the American Bulldog and the American Pit Bull Terrier. The result is usually a large dog with short, glossy coat that comes in many colors such as brown, chocolate, black, and white. They are muscular, stocky, with small pointy ears and a large grin. They are friendly for the most part, make good family pets, and fierce guard dogs. Bullypits are intelligent and moderately easy to train because they strive to make their owners happy. However, they need consistency and positive discipline. This breed is confident and self-assured so they respond best to someone who has the same mannerisms.

Bullypit Breed History

The Bullypit has not been around long enough to have much of a history so it is best to look at the history of the parent breeds. The American Bulldog originated in the United States in the 1700s. They were originally bred to wrangle cattle and bait bulls but the latter was outlawed in 1835. The belief was that the meat of the bull was better if it was baited before butchering. After this was outlawed, some breeders tried to use them as fighting dogs but this was unsuccessful. All American Bulldogs were bred from Johnson, Baily, Scott, or Williamson strains.

Today, this breed is usually used as a guard dog or family pet. They are very good at being a guard dog because they are loyal and incredibly fearless. The American Pit Bull Terrier has been around since the 19th century, bred in the United Kingdom by crossing a Bulldog with a Terrier. The reason for this was to produce a dog with the athleticism and strength of a Bulldog with the eagerness of the Terrier. Just like the Bulldog, the American Pit Bull Terrier was originally used in fighting and bull baiting. Unfortunately, the American Pit Bull Terrier has gotten a bad reputation over the years as an aggressive breed but this is not true. They are normally not aggressive with humans or other pets unless they are abused or treated with aggression. This breed is just more brave and competitive than most. The Bullypit is likely to have the same characteristics as both of these breeds because they are so similar.

Bullypit Breed Appearance

The Bullypit has a short, smooth, and glossy coat that can come in almost any color including white, brown, black, and chocolate. They have a large head, short muzzle, large mouth, deep chest, and a strong and firm back. The tail is long and tapered and their legs are short, stocky, and well-defined. They have large feet that are proportionate to their legs. The Bullypit is usually about 25 inches tall and between 50 and 100 pounds, depending on the size of the parent breeds. Their large mouths can sometimes make them look like they are smiling at you and they have a comical expression at times.

Bullypit Breed Maintenance

You do not have to brush your Bullypit very often due to their short hair. A quick brushing with a soft bristle brush once or twice a week should be enough to keep shedding to a minimum. There is no need to shampoo your dog unless it is necessary because bathing too often can result in dry skin. Once a week, while cleaning your dog’s ears you should check for redness, wax buildup, and ear mites. Be sure to brush your dog’s teeth at least once or twice a week with toothpaste made especially for dogs and trim her nails when needed.

Insuring your dog as soon as “pawssible” is essential for preventing high vet care costs. Start comparing insurance plans from leading insurers like Healthy Paws and Embrace and save over $270 a year.

Brushing Frequency
fur daily fur weekly fur monthly
Bullypit requires weekly brushing
Daily Weekly Monthly

Bullypit Temperament

Although the Bullypit may look fierce and can certainly be a frightening guard dog, this breed is very gentle and cuddly with their family. If you socialize them when they are young you should have no problem with your Bullypit getting along with any pet in your household, although they may chase the squirrels and rabbits outside just like any other dog. You have to make sure your Bullypit knows that you are the leader of the pack in your house so they know they cannot do whatever they want. The Bullypit is easy to train as long as they know who the boss is and you have to stay consistent and do not use aggressive punishment at any time. This can make your dog aggressive in return.

Bullypit Activity Requirements

Your Bullypit likes to stay active and they need at least an hour to 90 minutes of moderate exercise daily. Without the proper exercise, your Bullypit is likely to become bored and get into things she is not supposed to such as chewing on furniture or anything else she can find. Taking your dog for a walk around the neighborhood or a trip to the dog park are two excellent choices. Also, most dogs of this breed like to play fetch or chase with other pets. The Bullypit is also good at agility training and they are great in competitions of any kind.

Tortilla is such a wonderful dog; I can not praise her enough. She learns commands very quickly and is so kind. She has never chewed a shoe, she likes to steal socks but never damages them. Tortilla is like our baby, she loves to be close to us. Everyone we meet always comments on her beautiful coat and her overall cuteness! She is very active and her body shows it; she is quite fit; right now shes at 5 months old and weighs in at 45 pounds.

He is the most aggressive-looking animal behind the fence of our home, but if anybody actually knew, like our friends and family do, he cannot wait for them to come in the house so that he can be loved upon, and he gives love in return. Great with infants to the elderly. Sometimes if we are gone from the home too long, he likes to show his unhappiness by getting into the garbage can in the pantry! We have lever door knobs so he can open the door on his own! He is a great companion to our two border collies which happen to be sisters too. Chubby has a white and chocolate coat.

She is the most people friendly dog I have ever met she can be very stubborn she likes walks but not too long of walks she really enjoys a good stuffed animal the soft ones so she can take out all the stuffing and toss it around she also really loves car rides, not so great around cats, very a.d.d at times, sometimes we do struggle to break her attention away from something she is focused on, but overall she is a great dog and she thinks she is a lap dog but she is 72 lb ❤️

I have noticed when I don't walk my dog for his normal 2 miles in the morning and the night, he loves to chew on everything. He also destroys toys as soon as we get them, so I suggest a big strong bone. Other than that, he loves children, and just wants to say hi to everyone and lick them to death.

I found him and his family on the side of the road so I just decided to help them out. So what I did was went up to a home and knocked on the door and the man inside opened and I spoke with him. after a minute of talking he decided to take the family but I decided to take this one little one that was sooo scared but I took him home and now he is happy. I have also never owned any type of bull dog and I grew up in a neighborhood that had mean bull dogs. You see Butch though he is amazing, he loves his two sisters which both are small dogs and he is soooo friendly with the neighbors.

Very good dog loves children and women can be watchful of men. Very high animal pray drive, except for birds. Not dog aggressive unless they enter the yard, or show aggression to him. He is stubborn, very powerful, great guard dog. I really like this dog, much better then a pit bull to me he is a calmer dog and will take care of any treat when needed, will not start a fight but he will finish one so i carry a break stick and pepper spray with me all the time he will not release a animal with out a break stick. but i trust this dog around children more then any other large dog.

Latte is extremely affectionate, healthy and playful. She loves cuddling, especially when she's sleeping or after activity. She is WONDERFUL with our 11 year old. The only thing we've really had some difficulty with is training (house and initial "sit, shake" activies) and learning not to snap/steal treats from her human AND animal family. Since she's only 4 months-old we're hoping she becomes better at these after a few more months.

Loves to play with people and our other dogs. She is a bit pushy sometimes with a couple of my dogs who don't want to play with her and that sometimes leads to a scuffle. I break it up either with the noise of a small stun gun in the house or the spay of a water gun outside. She has never initiated a fight. She tries playing with my one dog, he reacts aggressively and then she responds in like. Hopefully they will both learn to leave each other alone. He is 8 years old and only 20lbs, she is 8 months older and almost 50lbs. Not the best combination, but I have confidence it will work. We have had her for almost 3 months. With me she thinks she is a lap dog, Lol.
