The trend for hybrid dogs shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, especially when new combinations keep emerging, like the Chipin.

This is the offspring of the Chihuahua and Miniature Pinscher, two of the most popular toy breeds in the world. They’re generally friendly companions that need little by way of grooming, although they want more exercise than you’d guess from looking at their teensy legs.

In this introduction to the Chipin dog, you’ll learn:

  • This hybrid has only been around since the start of the 21st century
  • Chipins are usually good with small children and other pets
  • They can sometimes be affected by joint and eye problems
  • They’re brainy creatures and love games or agility training

Chipin Breed Overview

Chihuahuas and Miniature Pinschers have been much-loved companions for a long time and the good news is that Chipins look to have inherited their parents friendliness and playfulness.

This is a dog that appreciates games and walks, but is no stranger to a long nap, either. They’re easy to train and fast learners, but they do require consistency to override a slight stubborn streak.

Like many small dogs, Chipins can be a little territorial and occasionally aggressive towards larger canines they deem a threat. However, they’re more than capable of settling into homes with other pets and small children.

Life with any breed has both its ups and downs — taking out a pet insurance policy will really help you when your dog needs it most

Chipin Breed History

Like many hybrid dogs (or designer breeds, if you prefer), the Chipin dog is thought to have emerged in the USA, most likely in the early 21st century. As a comparatively new canine variety, they’re not a common sight and can be easily confused with their parent breeds.

The Chipin family tree stretches a long way back, however. The earliest documentation of the Miniature Pinscher is from the 19th century, although it’s safely assumed they predate this period.

That being said, their exact origin is unclear. They’re thought to be a mix of several small breeds, including the Daschund, Italian Greyhound and German Pinscher. The Miniature Pinscher isn’t a relative of the Doberman Pinscher — Pinscher is simply the German word used to name terrier-type dogs.

Due to the tiny frame and agility, the Miniature Pinscher was put to work catching vermin. Some breeders went too far in trying to make the breed as small as possible, but this malformation was corrected by the 20th century. It was around this time that the breed became a popular sight on the dog show circuit and they were officially recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1925.

The Chihuahua is likely to be even older than the Miniature Pinscher. They’ve been part of Mexican folklore for hundreds of years, but their early history remains something of a blur.

One strong theory posits that the breed is a descendant of the slightly bulkier and now-extinct Techichi breed, which had played a spiritual role in early Mesoamerican culture. Others find reason to believe that the Chihuahua emerged from Chinese or Maltese breeds that found their way over to Mexico, perhaps by way of trade.

Whatever the origin, Spanish explorers found the Chihuahua in abundance when they reached Mexico, particularly in the Chihuahua region, the name of which would be leant to the breed. In the 19th century, they began to find admirers north of the Mexican border and were recognized by the AKC in 1904.

Their popularity continued to grow worldwide in the following century, becoming a favored pet among celebrities such as Xavier Cugat, Billie Holiday and Madonna. Today, they have plenty of admirers who aren’t A-listers — the most recent AKC survey found Chihuahuas to be the 31st most popular breed in the USA.

Chipin Breed Appearance

As a new hybrid breed, there’s still a bit of variation in appearance between different Chipin puppies.

This is especially true when it comes to coat colors. The black Chipin dog is a common sight, as is the chocolate brown Chipin dog, but it’s also possible to find Chipins in cream, tan, or a mixture of any of the aforementioned. These coats are usually short, straight and sparse, which was ideally suited to the hot Mexican climate.

They tend to have small heads with oversized ears and a tiny, pointed muzzle — occasionally they have a dark face mask more typically associated with the Miniature Pinscher.

Much like their parents, the Chipin is a dainty little thing, usually falling between 8 and 11 inches tall and 5 and 12 pounds, making them easy to scoop up into a parent’s arms.

Similar Breeds to a Chipin

There are several dogs that are similar to a Chipin in terms of size and demeanor — some of these are ancient relations, but others are similarly new hybrids.

Chipin Breed Maintenance

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance dog, the Chipin is a good bet. Their coats need a going-over with a stiff bristle brush a few times a week, but nothing more than that. Parents can bathe their Chipin with a vet-approved dog shampoo, but a wipedown with a doggy wipe or wet face cloth often does the trick without removing as much of their natural oils.

Ears should be checked regularly for signs of redness, dirt or wax build-up. If needed, they can be cleaned with a mild cleanser. Other tasks to stay on top of include clipping nails and brushing teeth.

Chipin Health Risks

Although there are some canine experts that believe hybrid dogs to be healthier in general than purebred counterparts, there have been several health issues observed in the Chipin that parents should be aware of. These can include:

Be sure to only deal with responsible breeders that carry out screening and tests on their animals — these aren’t a failsafe way of preventing hereditary diseases being passed on, but it certainly lowers the risk.

Skeletal Conditions

Like many toy breeds, the Chipin is more prone to developing Patellar Luxation at some point in their lives. This happens when one of the knee bones frequently dislocates, leading to a characteristic hopping motion and a fair amount of pain. Fortunately, this can usually be treated successfully, via medication, physiotherapy or surgery.

Another potential disorder is Spina Bifida, a congenital abnormality of the spinal column. This is usually spotted when a dog is very young and can range in severity. Some dogs may have no or only minor symptoms, but others might be affected by weakness, incoordination or incontinence. Sadly, there are no treatment options for severe cases.

Color Dilution Alopecia

Chihuahuas are one of the breeds more likely to be affected by Color Dilution Alopecia (CDA), so it follows that the Chipin can, too — especially if they’re a diluted color, such as fawn or blue.

This inherited skin condition can cause hair loss, dry skin and bacterial infections. The condition itself can be cured, but your vet will be able to recommend treatments for the symptoms — this includes shampoos, ointments and medications.

Eye problems

The Chipin’s round eyes are one of their most adorable features, but these can sometimes be affected by disease. Cataracts can occasionally develop — often, parents will be able to spot these as a cloudiness or abnormal appearance in their pet’s eyes, but incoordination or a newly cautious approach to walking might be giveaways.

The good news is that many dogs will be able to undergo a low-risk surgical procedure to treat Cataracts and recover within two to three months.

Another eye condition for which the Chipin is more predisposed to developing is Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). This is another hereditary disease that can vary in severity. Some dogs only suffer from minor vision loss and can adapt accordingly, but the worst affected can graduate to total blindness.

Unlike cataracts, PRA can’t be treated and the only thing that parents can really do is make their dog’s environment as safe as possible.

Regular veterinary testing can help spot health problems at a vitally early stage — this is one of the biggest perks with taking out a wellness plan for your pet.

What to Feed a Chipin

As a toy breed, a Chipin needs dog food specifically designed around the needs of small breeds. This will usually be more nutritionally dense as they can only eat smaller amounts. Kibble will be more appropriately sized for their mouths.

Be careful of overfeeding your Chipin. Even though they are quite skinny dogs, they can easily put on weight, which puts them at risk of health conditions such as Diabetes or Pancreatitis.

Need help picking what your Chipin has for dinner? Our partner Dog Food Advisor is an expert in this field and has put together a list of the best dog food for small breeds

Chipin Temperament

The Chihuahua is often thought of as a yappy dog, a reputation that has an element of truth to it — in fact, some parents prize this very trait if they want a watchdog. The Chipin can certainly be vocal, although this only tends to be when they’re bored or left on their own.

This is very much a dog that loves to spend time with their family and is pretty much always pleasant company when around loved ones. They don’t have problems with small children, although parents should remember that the small frame of a Chipin can be accidentally hurt by overexcitable hands.

When it comes to training, the Chipin is brainy and can master commands quite easily. Occasionally, parents might encounter some stubbornness but this can be overcome with perseverance.

Chipin Activity Requirements

Chipins need around 45 minutes of exercise a day, which you might find surprising considering their small size. This can include a mix of walking (up to eight miles a week), agility training and games.

It’s important to keep a Chipin dog mentally as well as physically stimulated, as otherwise undesirable behavioral problems can develop — things like chewingjumping or excessive barking.

My ChiPin is a very smart dog, who lets me know when I am home, he has to go potty. He will whine and go to the door and stand up & look at his leash, to let me know he has to go out. He loves walking, running and loves fetching. He loves attention & craves it every day that I am home. The best part of coming home to my Bandit, is that he greats you excitedly every day, even if I have been gone only 10 minutes away from the house

We have known our baby since the day she was born. My husband's cousins dog got pregnant and we got her from him when his dog gave birth. My Little Miss is such a joy. She really is my best friend in the world. She cuddles with me all of the time. There's not a time when I'm at home and she's not continuously attached at my side. She loves to run and chase after toys. She has so many toys, a favorite being a long snake with six squekers in it. She always goes so crazy. I love this dog with everything I have, even when she gets into the trash and shreds it all over my house!

This is my first Chipin. I took her in as a rescue when she was 9 months old. She had her first dental cleaning today. Her 1st time to go under anesthesia. 1 tooth extracted. At end of procedure, her breathing became labored & then her heart stopped for 3 minutes. Fortunately, the vet was able to revive her. She's doing fine after coming home. I'm wondering if this breed typically has issues with bad reactions to anesthesia.

We adopted Kiba thinking he was an adult, but he's definitely a puppy! Expect this mixed breed to have TONS and TONS of energy. And it is true, if they aren't exercied enough, they will exhibit bad behaviors. They are notoriously hard to house train, but we've found that he's picking up the routine of when it's time to go potty. His accidents inside are becoming fewer and fewer. He is very curious, friendly, comical, and definitely territorial. He gives our 8 yr old Chug a run for her money! One bit of advice: invest in a Himalayan churpi chew!

My chipin is very exitable when he sees other dogs, he is very alet and will bark any time he feels a threat, even if that threat is his friend human he was cuddling with the other day. He has that alertness and agression from a miniature pincher. From chihuahua he has the friendliness, the joy of following you everywhere and be stuck to your face 24/7.

Rocky is a couch potato most of the time. She likes to sleep the whole day away but as soon as she sees you have her favourite toy in her hand, she will zoom around the whole house! She absolutely loves going out for a walk and exploring but will get tired and come to me for us to pack up and go on home. She a mini shadow of the family and will follow you around just to watch what you are doing. This isnt her invitation to play though because as soon as you acknowledge her she runs to find the next person to follow. She was a rescue pup. We got her when she was just 2 mo. old and just the tiniest little thing scared of everything. Now she barks whenever she hears the slightest noise, runs to greet new people, and wants to play with every dog she sees!

We adopted 2 Chipins , a brother and sister from a friend's cousin in Dec 2017. Dobby the male looks like a red Chihuahua, Bellatrix looks like a Minpin They were very frightened and skittish but after a few days we were able to socialize them to us. They were terrified of children when we first got them but they have become much better with them. We suspected that they may have been mishandled by careless children. They are fast learners but have a bit of a sneaky streak in them. They will also chew anything they can snatch off the end tables. They are affectionate and loving, very spoiled and we call them the "kids" They love being part of our Saturday night parties and are usually the center of attention. They are definite lap dogs and love to be held and give kisses. They can be high maintenance but it is worth it. We did of course spay and neuter them and had them chipped. We love our Chipins.

My Chipin Cleo is the most hilarious and intelligent little girl. She is a rescue, so at first she was kind of shy, but now she has fully grown into her environment and voice! She is very friendly, but barks at strangers and new dogs at first. She warms up to them though and then is loving and playful. Hates bath time, but loves napping and burrows under her blanket. She is very observant as well. I think she knows commands but chooses when to listen, very sassy. We thought 1 was more of an adult stage but she definitely chews and has bursts of energy like a puppy, and then becomes so sleepy she can barely keep her eyes open. I love how much personality she has, and we are still training her!

Sprocket is an extremely sweet and loving little dude. He tends to be a bit much for other dogs.... a little overly rambunctious and playful . Super clumsy. Feisty. Cuddly. Smart. Picky. Energetic. Mistevious. Stubborn. Loyal. Bossy. Curious. Great with kids and babies. He only barks when playing. Sprocket is definetly a “do all” dog. He hikes with me on the daily and is currently learning how to follow my husband on the mountain bike. Perfect mini trail pup! My ONLY problem is his lack of love for sleep, you’d think with as much exercise he gets daily- he’d sleep... WRONG. This little boy likes to go to bed at 11pm and wake up at 3 am- he is a creature of schedules. Sprocket is a shop dog- meaning he gets to go to work with my husband. He is rarely left alone, but when he is.... he behaves.... accept for that one time he smelled chorizo in the trash lol. All that said- I couldn’t ask for a better fur baby. Truly- my best friend. Everyone wants to steal him!

My chipin Punch is smart as a whip and a fast learner. He loves people big and small old and young. I have a satchel purse he absolutely loves to be in when we go for walks. I turn my hoodie around backwards and if I bend over and put the opening of the hood itself on the bed he will climb in it and either curl up into a ball all the way in it or he will stick his head out of it too look around. The one thing he absolutely hates is his collar and leash or his harness and leash. I cannot get him to walk with either one for the life of me. I think he just got so used to either being the satchel or my hoodie that he just refuses to walk with his collar/leash or harness/leash.

Chipins can be hard to train if they take more after the minpin and are very stubborn. Not for a person or family that does not understand the alpha mentality or need for having a pack leader.

My Banjo is a 1 year old male rescue, and is the light of my life. He is an absolute delight, and full of energy. With the ability to keep himself, and the other animals, entertained, he is the life of the party. We take daily walks, runs, and play, but he can stand it all. He is 13" at the shoulder, and 15 lbs, but is in perfect health.

I got Tess when she was about 1 year old at my local animals shelter. She loves to play and go for walks and especially loves playing fetch. She is always around someone and is very good with other dogs. My boyfriend had 2 much larger dogs and she loves to play with them. She is not aggressive at all and gets excited whenever someone gives her attention. She is ok with being home alone and loves to lay out in the sun. When we first got her she was already potty trained which was a plus for us. She is overall a very hyper and very smart dog. I lucked out with this one and am very grateful to have adopted her.

Wasn't really looking for a dog at the time. My son got straight A's on his report card so he wanted to visit a dog shelter because his favorite stuffed animal was a ChiPin. Went to the shelter and saw this cute little puppies. He was a couple months old and looked exactly like my son's stuffed animal. Couldn't leave him so we adopted him right there. Potty trained him easily. Loves this family. Protects us. Iffy around new people but once he gets to know them he let's them in the family. Doesn't like baths or getting his nails trimmed but will do it. All in all he is a great dog and we love him very much.

Very lovable dog. He mainly sticks with one member of the family but is always nice to the other members. We have two other dogs that are much younger but he loves to play with them. The only issue he has with these dogs are his size. He has no major medical issues besides car sickness. When we first got him we thought he was dying because he was sick. We soon realized that he was a very healthy dog and only got sick when he traveled in the car. We do live in the country so he has only traveled on curvy roads. He may do better with straight city roads.

She is the sweetest companion I could have ever asked for. Potty training was a little difficult but not terrible. She doesn’t like little children very much, and she doesn’t like people getting up in her face too quickly. But, I wouldn’t like that either. When we get home she loves to nip our fingers and give us love bites. She was very easy to train but she definitely has a stubborn streak.

Loves everyone except most kids <8 who are assholes and get up near his face or act unruly and unpredictable. 4. Hes smart, fun, and the beat cuddler. Cons: 1. Death by Tongue. He licks and licks....and will keep on my 500 thread count sheets. Whatever hes a pimp. 2. Hates rain/water which can lead to a poop on the rug, but he is so much better. Never ever pees inside anymore 3. serious squirrel and rodent addict. All rules, cars, and me are no longer important.

Elvis is very smart. His nose is pink and his eyes are light brown. Body and speed, he resembles a greyhound. I've thought that since the beginning. He runs very fast. If you are sitting down, to him, it means you can play. He's very social with other dogs and cats and people although he is leery of men until he gets to know them. He's afraid of loud noises and big machines. He gets to play at the off-leash dog park 3 or more times a week with other dogs and has never had a problem. People love him wherever he goes. The elderly here in the apartment complex love him and on rainy days I let him run thru the halls for exercise. He's very fast and sounds like a herd of elephants going down the corridor. Management staff love him too and on occasion watched him for me in the office. He's a happy little boy. I call him my little "whack -a- doodle". He's my first experience with a small dog and finding something he will eat has been a challenge. He likes Costco roasted chicken. Not crazy about canned food but will nibble at dry. Doesn't like many treats or sweets. Nibbles on carrots. He's been a great dog. He keeps an old lady active!

We got him from a neighbor who unfortunately abused him. He used to be very scared of everyone, especially men, and refused to get close. A few years later with us, however, and he now LOVES cuddling and meeting new people. He’s very friendly now and very very loving. I wish we had rescued him sooner so he had more years of true love but we will just make the most of the future and make sure he knows how special he is. He LOVES walks and LOVES going for car rides. He gets excited just hearing “ride” and “walk” uttered. He’s a big jealous baby and craves lots of attention. He does this thing where he grabs your hand with his paw if he wants more pets. He’s very protective and truthfully, he thinks he’s much bigger than he really is. I love him a whole lot.

I adopted my chipin 3 years ago from a local rescue. He came from Texas and is now living in MA. Since I don’t know my dog’s history, I’m not sure how different he would be today if I had him from a younger age. My dog hates other dogs and people. Maybe socializing was attempted as a puppy but I would guess not. He loves going in the car and for walks. However, because of his aggressiveness towards strangers and other dogs I have to go to places where I won’t pass many people at off times. He is also very alert and will nonstop bark if someone is at my house and will try to go after them (I don’t think he would bite) until he has seen that same person multiple times, maybe five or six, in our house. Although he tries to pull the big dog act, he is terrified of my cat. As awful as this sounds in writing, I wouldn’t trade him for anything. I am so happy we adopted him. He is very intelligent and loyal. He is also very stubborn so he basically does whatever he wants (within reason). My dog can learn tricks incredibly fast and will do anything for treats. I have never seen a dog so motivated by food. He loves to burrow under covers even in warm weather. Speaking of warm weather, I don’t know how this dog ever survived in Texas. He seems like anything over 75 degrees is too hot for him. He is great with my young nieces and has never nipped or anything even if when they bother him. Every time I look at my little cutie with his nose popping out of the covers I am so glad I got him. Adopt don’t shop!

I adopted her at one year. She had been abandoned with 29 of her relatives in Corpus Christi, TX. She is food obsessed as a result, I believe, of being wired into a crate with 5 other dogs and being left for days without food. And she is terrified of loud truck noise. I've had her now for 5 1/2 months and she still makes progress daily in her behavior toward the people in my retirement community. She is an absolute joy.

I found my ChiPin, lured him into my home with a hotdog the second day he showed up. I notified animal control, but no one came for him. He came to us and immediately started lifting his leg on the furniture, we had two other dogs and figured he was just doing what he’s been let to do. We had the leg lifting under control within 3 weeks, but ultimately getting him fixed helped. He loves my two other dogs, the three of them have formed a strong dog pack who enjoy running in our yard, sunning by the pool together, and chasing after the ball or whatever toy they’re currently having a tug-o-war with inside the house. We have cats too, Rookie is not a threat to him and they know it. Within two months my cats feel free to walk by Rookie and rub on him as they do so. Rookie has been such a great addition to our home, especially during covid. He loves to sit high in his car seat and go for rides. He has taken our dog’s routine as his own, he learned it quickly by watching my dogs respond to me. He’s smart as a whip and will do anything for a treat. I keep him in shape with walks and long play sessions in the our fenced yard. We are so taken back with this little dog that we’ve both said we’d only own ChiPins in the future! We ALL love Rookie!

I have had Lily since she was 4 weeks old. She could fit in my hands when I took her home with me. Straight from the beginning she was affectionate, playful, and very VERY smart. Potty training? A piece of cake. After a few nights of waking up every 2 hours and taking her out she began waking ME up to tell me she needed to go. And boy, is she obnoxious when she wants to be. She is a snuggle bug for sure and loves to nap. She wiggles her way under the covers and curls up behind your knees or against your tummy and sleeps with you until you decide to get up. She also loves to be held (my fault for carrying her everywhere) and is content to be held like a baby for hours while you walk around the house doing whatever. It’s kinda pathetic in the cutest way possible. She does great with dogs and seems to think that she is a Doberman. Not afraid of anything (until she gets close enough) She does well with children too, but not with children that do not know how to behave around dogs. If a kid steps on her or pulls on her ears, she WILL bite. Not hard, but enough to scare them. My favorite thing about her is probably her personality. She’s getting up there in age, already 8 years old, and STILL acts like a puppy. She’s loving, playful, goofy, and so intelligent. I cherish every minute I get to spend with her.

I’ve had my baby since i was in elementary school... now I’m 19 turning 20 in august. she loves to cuddle with me and curl up next to me under the covers for hours. she’s my cuddle bug. she gets a bit protective over me sometimes. i have 2 other dogs which are larger than her and she literally isn’t scared of anything and will make it known that she’s the top dog. sometimes she gets jealous because of them and here recently she has been growling at them when they get close to me when she’s around which is not good at all. but she’s already 13 and I’m just going to except the fact that i might not have her around much longer and to keep her at ease and happy. she’s very energetic too. she has a big personality as if she was still a puppy 🐶 and yes shes a yapper and it’s annoying but i love her anyways ❤️❤️❤️

We got Macho from a local shelter 2 years ago when he was only 3 months old. He was originally from Texas and while the Min Pin in him was known, we had to figure the Chihuahua part of him out for ourselves. I never thought I would love a small dog this much. It helps that he really isn't a yappy dog. He rarely barks and moreso just grumbles a lot when strangers come into his home. That being said, when we're outside for walks he's friendly to every single person we come across and is only territorial in our own home. He gets along very well with all other animals, although I think my senior cat could do without his constant attempts to goad her into chasing him, haha. He doesn't have separation anxiety, thankfully, but he needs a lot of attention. He loves all of us in the house, including our 6 year old daughter....Providing she doesn't try to pick him up. He has very much latched onto me and follows me everywhere. I'll go into the bathroom to pee and he'll just follow me in and sit right across from me until I've finished. He's incredibly affectionate and loves to burrow down under the blankets with us. We can take him outside with us without a leash as he is extremely obedient and will not stray to point where he cannot see us. He is also one of the biggest babies...we can't take him swimming as he'll panic on the edge of the pool as though he believes we are in extreme danger. If we take him in the pool with us, he'll cling onto us for dear life, obviously terrified. Since he's so well behaved, we thought we could take him on a horse drawn carriage ride with us in the Wisconsin Dells. This was a terrible idea. He was friendly and great to all the other people and dogs in the carriage, but the horses made him panic. He cried the whole ride, probably wrecking it for everyone, lol. He needs his cute little hat and coat when we go out in the winter as he shivers terribly from the cold. His favorite thing is this electric heater that blows heat directly onto him. Training is rrlativey simple as he's very smart, eager to please and responds very well to praise. His favorite game is where I will make him wait in the hallway and ill go into another room where he cant see me and ill hide 3 of his treats. When I say "Ok!", he'll come zooming in, sniffing frantically to find each one. It usually only takes him a few minutes. He gets sooo happy when he finds one and i clap for him. It's really adorable ♡ All-in-all he's probably the most well-behaved, loveable and friendly dog I've ever known. I honestly feel so lucky that we found him. He enriches all of our lives....maybe not the cat's life but she tolerates him. Us humans sure adore him though ❤

She is an absolutely wonderful dog. I got her from the shelter and she has the most lovable and excited personality. She is very good with everybody and other dogs, but can be nervous around men. These dogs definitely bond most to one person, but are still great around others. She is active and accompanies me on all of my travels and activities. I even bring her to outside restaurants!

Shes a sweetheart. Loves everyone, doesnt seem to know a stranger. That was different at first, she was terrified of other people besides me, my mom and one of my adult daughters. She is so smart, but a bit stubborn too. She does some of the cutest things. She will put herself to bed, go into my room and lie down and wait for me to come to bed, or if shes staying w my mom, she’ll go to her bed in the kitchen and go to sleep alone. She likes to play chase with my two cats. Sometimes they must put her in line because she lets out a yelp, but they dont scratch, just a wack on the head. She will herd them up if they get out my apartment doir into the hallway, so cute. All in all, she has been a joy. A true delight, shes my Miss Penny.

Got him around 2 months old. Extremely smart and trainable even he's now 11 years old. Just kinda stubborn and hard to potty break in new places. Developed cataracts and some joint problems while younger. He was extremely playful, now due to age, sleeps more. But still love the walk routine. Clings to only 1 person, not friendly at all, as an owner I spoiled him too much. Highly alerted as well but barely barks until I have guests. Almost no yap, but terrible separation anxiety.

I found Chiken in the street. He wasn’t friendly when I found him. Took him home and gave him a bath to get the fleas off him. Gave him some dinner and bought him a doggie bed. After dinner he went to sleep fast. I’d say after that he would not let me out of his sight for a second from the minute I got out of bed to the time to go to bed. He has been a very special companion to me and now my mother. I make it a point to go visit him weekly. He has adopted my mother as his new owner but gets super excited when I go to see him.

Getting to be Obie's mom has been one of the best experiences of my life. Before he came to live with us, I was definitely NOT a dog person. In fact, I really thought I didnt like dogs at all. My husband sort of tricked me into getting Obie, and I have to tell you I'm so glad he did! The bond we share is one that I never knew was possible. The amount of joy he brings to my heart has brought me back from a severe depression and helped me to learn to love myself again. Best dog ever!

My Chipin is the most affectionate attention seeking lap dog you’ll ever meet. She loves any human that will give her attention. We have 2 other dogs that are bigger than her so she definitely barks louder when she plays with them so she doesn’t get smashed. She’s our little instigator. As a puppy, she used to steal other dogs food but now she sits for her food. She’s never been in a training class and has never needed it. All of her training, including potty training, she learned at an older age (5+ years). She’s even vocal when she yawns and sounds like Chewbacca. Super cute and great support companion too!

Doug is a senior rescue. He's pretty sedate. He's been leash and Heel trained. He's shy and timid, I have no background information on my "little Old Man" but I believe he was abused because he still (after being with us for almost a year. He's a complete snuggle bug. He want's to be with someone all the time. Outside, on walks, when we encounter another dog he's very PPA (protective, possessive and then aggressive). I took him to the dog park for the 1st time yesterday. I think going there will help him with his socialization. I'm teaching him to play, which he didn't know how when we got him. He loves his walks, his food and he likes to lay on my side of the recliner couch (I'm the alpha)but he goes to bed when we eat. He's the best room mate I've ever lived with. He knows he part of the pack and he's relaxed and comfortable and we know he adores us both of us.

I loved her from the minute I got her. She was 8 weeks old and fit in my hands. She’s so fun loving and full of energy! She is a social butterfly but more so toward the women. She gets shy and backs away from the men. Not sure if it’s just the testosterone floating around in the air or what making her intimidated. Lol She also loves to cuddle. She’ll just walk up and lay on my chest while I’m watching tv and lay her head against mine. Such a sweetie!

Question

How much Little Caesars food should I feed a Chipin weighing 16 pounds that should weigh 8 to ten pounds?

Answer

Question

Along with 1 cup of food per day for my Chipin, what treats and about how many per day is acceptable? My husband and I just adopted, Vader (Chipin) and he is around one year old. The main use of the treats will be for training purposes.

Answer
Unfortunately there is not enough information here to answer your question. A dog's calorie needs depend on their breed and age but also their body condition score, activity levels, if they are neutered etc. Similarly, every food has a different amount of calories so one cup could contain any number of calories, depending on the brand. Treat wise, treats should never make up more than 10% of a dog's diet. Stick to low calorie treats such as boiled chicken or white fish if concerned about keeping calories low.
