Friendly, social and energetic, the Dashalier is a small hybrid that is a mix between a Dachshund and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. These little hybrids can have 3 unique coat types ranging from short and soft to long, wiry and silky. As this is a new hybrid it can be speculated that breed he originated during the 21st century for the purpose of companionship. These hybrids are not to difficult to train and can make great additions to homes with children and other pets. These dogs are not suited to owners with a busy lifestyle or for owners who live in apartments as they have a high tendency to experience separation anxiety and may express this through continuous barking.

Dashalier Breed History

The Dachshund is a small hound breed that was bred in Germany during the 1600s. Its primary purpose was to hunt animals such as badgers, rabbits, foxes and boars, rousing them from their dens .These breeds had excellent stamina and excelled in tracking and hunting despite their size. Once called the Badger Hound, this name was given to distance the breed from their German origins, specifically during wartime. The Dachshund is the only breed recognized by the American Kennel Club that hunts both above and below the ground. Regarded as one of the most loyal companions of King Charles II, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an elegant, noble breed developed in the United Kingdom during the 1600s. This breed was very popular with women of the nobility and they were termed a “ladies breed”. One notable owner was Mary, Queen of Scots. Even though this canine has existed for centuries and has a long background of changes and refinements to the breed, they were only recently recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1996. Today, their personalities are kind but can have a range of differences from quiet to rambunctious.

Dashalier Breed Appearance

The Dashalier is a small breed dog that may stand anywhere from 13 to 16 inches. These dogs are often have a long lean body which may not be as long as the Dachshund but is just as slim. Their heads are generally flat but rounded, muzzles are medium length, eyes are wide and round, and ears are flopped down. Typically they will have silky fur on the ears and sometimes on the legs. Tails can be long and almost sickle shaped. Coats can either be long or medium to short in length and have a wiry dense texture. Colors can range from the Blenheim mix (red and white), cream mixes, and tricolors of various combinations.

Dashalier Breed Maintenance

Dashaliers are moderate shedding dogs and depending on their parent breed type their maintenance level can vary. For example, a Dachshund can either be long-haired, wire-haired or have a smooth, short coat. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel often has silky, medium length fur. Your Dashalier can easily have a coat with any hair length. If you have a Dashalier that presents with the wire-haired or long-haired trait then you will need to use a pin brush to brush him and may need to bathe your Dashalier often. If you have a Dashalier with a shorter coat, then brushing with a slicker brush will do the trick, and bathing can be minimised. As with all dog teeth brushing, ear cleaning and nail trimming should be done on a regular basis as part of the grooming routine.

Dashaliers often suffer from hip dysplasia. Secure pet health insurance today to avoid high veterinary care costs. Wag! Wellness lets pet parents compare insurance plans from leading companies like Figo and Spot. Find the “pawfect” plan for your pet in just a few clicks!

Dashalier Temperament

The Dachshund is a relatively difficult breed to train due to its stubborn, bossy persona. However, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel tends to be a dog with an eagerness to please its owner making it an easy breed to train. As such, your Dashalier is a breed that can be moderately easy to train if you start at an early age and work with a consistency that suits both parental influences. This hybrid often does well in a family environment, getting along just great with children and pets. However, socialization should be done during puppyhood in order to prevent any behavioral issues with other family members. It is also important to teach children how to play and approach these small breed dogs as they can get injured if a child is too rough. As for strangers, your Dashalier may have the tendency to bark a lot when meeting new people.

Dashalier Activity Requirements

These hybrids tend to have bursts of energy and moments where they are highly active. During these moments providing toys and playtime with other canine companions can help them meet their energy requirements. Being a small dog, the Dashalier does not need an intense form of exercise. Instead, 2 to 3 short walks per day will satisfy him and allow him to get some fresh air and say hello to the neighbors. Other ways owners can meet their dog’s daily activity requirements can be through games of fetch, off-leash park visits within a safe enclosure, and swimming.

Jackie came as a rescue at about age 1. Extremely friendly and loving toward all people but is very dog aggressive. Who knows what happened to him in his first year of life on the streets. He is an absolute love to all people he meets. He escaped one day and it was amazing to watch him in the woods using his ancestry genes....sniffing the air and springing up and down like a spaniel and then he found an animal hole and burrowed half way down into it. What a character and we love love love him.

JJ is a rescue with special needs. He has a heart murmur and issues with his front paws. He's the smartest dog I've ever owned, and I'm usually a Golden Retriever person. He had bad separation anxiety, but is over that now. He DOES bark if someone suddenly appears in his line of sight...

My Dashalier is named Sophie. She is 12 weeks old and has been somewhat difficult to potty train. She is doing much better going potty outside after a few weeks of being with me! She gets very nippy when she gets overly tired and playful. Other than that, she’s a very loving pup!

Nathan (named for the hot dogs), mother was cavalier and father long-haired dachshund. He fits the description here perfectly. We’ve had him since 6 weeks and is center of our family. The cat is his buddy and let’s us know when she needs to come in. We’ve trained him to use voice command buttons for “outside” and “play”. He’s smart and communicates well without barking. Trains swiftly but he is stubborn! He still sneaks off to potty in hidden areas- but won’t use main rooms. And he has chewed up baseboards, shows, anything he can get, even dug a hole in the wall! Yet he still has my heart and has converted this die-hard cat person into a Dashalier person too. His cute face and his loyal unconditional affection broke me!

I lucked out and adopted my girl from a local dog rescue. She was approx one year old when I got her. She is the most lively, fun, and hilarious dog ever. We absolutely adore her. She is very smart and was so easy to train. She adores her big brother who is a giant lab and they play amazing together. She is extremely energetic at times and has big bursts of energy but will also cuddle up and snuggle you all day if you wanna have a lazy day. She’s happy as long as she’s with us. She is nervous of new places and new people but being socialized lots has helped!! I love her to death! Such an awesome breed

I love my Dashalier! She is a barker, but once you come closer she is the sweetest love of a dog. Whenever I take her out on walks, people always tend to ask what kind of dog she is, just because her body is kinda funny looking. I love her!

Recently adopted what I think is a Dashlier. He loves me but hates everyone else. He growls, barks & snarls-not friendly at all. / He also barks at every flower petal that goes by the front window! PLUS at 6 yrs he’s not potty trained & does not asks to go out!!! Not lovable behavior:(
