The French Bulloxer will inherit traits from both of his parent breeds, the compact French Bulldog and the strong Boxer. Typically cheerful, friendly and loyal, this hybrid most often has a gentle nature. Small to medium in size, he will weigh between 40 and 65 pounds and have a sturdy stature. Your French Bulloxer will be affectionate - he may become protective of the family though, so should be socialized well.
Ancient ancestors of the Boxer were the Molossus from the mountains of Albania and Greece. These dogs were of giant size and were often seen on the fields of war, as well as guarding people and livestock. The Boxer descended from these sturdy dependable canines. A more recent ancestor is the Bullenbeisser of Germany, a talented hunting dog. The Boxer developed and changed considerably over the years, making his way to the United States only after World War I. Now a very popular breed, this dog excels at conformation in the show ring and has won Best in Show at Westminster four times. Originating in England as the Bulldog, this dog migrated to France with the Nottingham lace makers who moved in search of work, where he became known more commonly as the French Bulldog. This was most likely because the French favored the breed and enthusiasts began to develop him to their tastes. He soon sported a bat-eared look and became even more popular than ever. Visitors from North America adored the French Bulldog and brought him home after their travels to Europe and he joined the American Kennel Club’s roster in 1898. The resulting hybrid from this mix of purebreds is feisty and compact, though not nearly as strong and bulky as his parents once were.
The French Bulloxer will be a medium sized dog (average weight is 41 to 65 pounds) with a shiny coat that is short and fine. While the exact appearance of a French Bulloxer varies, typically the hybrid will have a square jaw, large eyes and mid-length floppy ears. Dogs of the hybrid will have anywhere from a slight to medium amount of excess skin that will present as wrinkles. The snout of the French Bulloxer is usually broad and short and he will typically have a strong chest and large paws. The hind legs will usually be strong and his front legs will be a bit shorter, appearing small when seen near the dog’s broad chest.
The French Bulloxer does not shed a lot and his grooming will be minimal, requiring brushing a few times per week with the slicker brush. He’ll enjoy a gentle comb-out too which will help remove any loose fur. An important part of the grooming to note is that he will need the folds in his skin checked often for moisture and dirt. Irritation can develop if wetness and foreign materials are allowed to accumulate. As with all dogs, you will want to brush his teeth several times per week. He could suffer from sore gums and dental decay if you neglect the teeth. Check his nails a few times a month to see if they are too long.

The French Bulloxer is a happy, friendly and loyal family addition. Typically, he will enjoy spending time with his family and will be protective of them should he determine it is required. The French Bulloxer is not usually aggressive, in fact, he is normally very gentle. He enjoys children, but like all dogs, should be supervised with the little ones. The French Bulloxer does not need to be kept busy; should your dog become bored and feeling left out though, he may get himself into trouble. Don’t be surprised if your dog is stubborn and a bit headstrong. This personality trait can make training challenging and will require a lot of positive reinforcement, patience, and repetition.
The French Bulloxer does not require much exercise to remain in shape. He will enjoy a few walks around the block each day - they can be short and spaced out. He will never refuse a walk but will be just as happy to laze around on the couch if you allow him to. This hybrid may be prone to gaining weight however, so be sure to get him out and about every day. Socialization at the dog park is a good choice of activity for the French Bulloxer. He can live in any environment, whether it be an apartment or house. Just be sure to watch his behavior in extreme temperatures. He has a brachycephalic facial structure which means he could experience difficulties with breathing in high and low temperatures.
