German Shorthaired Weimaraner

The Weimaraner was once considered a “rich man’s dog”. This elegant and graceful canine was originally designed to hunt and track big game animals such as deer, bears and wolves. The breed is said to have originated in Germany, in the Weimar court,  around the 1800s. Its ancestors include the Bloodhound (possibly the St. Hubert Hound), Pointers, and the German Hound. This dog is known as the "grey ghost" and once lived in the White House when President Eisenhower was in office. Known to be fearless and have incredible stamina, this breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1943. The German Shorthaired Pointer is a strong breed with a keen sense of smell, extreme athleticism, and high level of intelligence. Developed for the purpose of hunting, tracking and retrieving game, this agile canine is believed to have originated in Germany during the 1800s and was said to have been created through the mixing of breeds such as the Bloodhound, Spanish Pointer, and German Bird Dog. Once prized in the field, he is now a star in the show ring, taking Best in Show on many occasions. He was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930 and this lovable dog is now 11th on their list for popularity.
