Maltechi, Malachi
The Malchi is a hybrid breed that combines the genes of the Maltese and the Chihuahua. He is a small dog with a big bark and a big heart who has a gentle, affectionate, and playful personality. Taking after both the Chihuahua and the Maltese, the Malchi can appear in a number of different colors, with the two most common being pure white and tan. He has a tiny body with a round head, and can have either long or short hair depending on which parent breed's genes are stronger. If you are looking for a dog who is small, yet possesses a big personality, then the Malchi may be the perfect dog for you. Just keep in mind that he does not tend to do well with children and will require a lot of early socialization to keep him from becoming overprotective or aggressive. Due to this, the Malchi may be an excellent choice for an elder or an older couple who like to enjoy a slower paced life.

Malchi Breed History

When considering what makes a particular breed special or why they were created in the first place, looking at their origin story is a great resource! Because the Malchi is a newer hybrid breed, he hasn't had very much time to build up a well-detailed origin story. So, we turn to the parent breeds for all this important information. The Maltese is an old breed who was commonly used as trade goods in the Roman and Greek cultures. Originally created in Malta, the Maltese made his way all over the world thanks to his popularity in the trading system. He was used an accessory to rich and important ladies, starred in fantastic portraits, and even decorated the lyrics of poetry. This little white dog was indeed a beauty, and his calm personality was able to win hearts in the blink of an eye; making him a favorite companion for people everywhere. Eventually, the Maltese made his way to Europe where he gained a reputation for being a healer dog. Healers would lay the lovely little dog on the pillows of sick individuals with the belief that his gentle spirit would heal them. Despite the Maltese's great popularity everywhere else, it took quite a long time for him to make it to America. When he did in the year 1870, he was recognized by the American Kennel Club just a few short years later in 1888. Ever since, the Maltese has been a faithful companion and show dog with a very secure popularity ranking. The Chihuahua is another popular companion breed who was originally created in Mexico. This spunky little dog was believed to be a spirit guides whose job consisted of protecting souls as they travelled through the underworld. Despite these interesting tales, there is no real evidence of how long the Chihuahua breed has been around or what their original purpose was. Whatever the reason for their creation, Chihuahuas are spunky, spirited dogs who believe they are much bigger than they really are. The breed takes its name from the state of Chihuahua where 19th century American tourists first encountered the dog. The American Kennel Club first registered the breed in the year 1904 and the dogs have been used in shows and as popular companions ever since.

Malchi Breed Appearance

The Malchi is a small dog that reaches a max weight of  about 12 pounds fully grown. Because he is a mixture between the Chihuahua and the Maltese, his appearance can vary greatly, even from his brothers and sisters within the same litter. Depending on which parent breed's genes are strongest, the Malchi can have either long or short fur that comes in a variety of colors (the most common being white or tan). But, regardless of the length, his coat is always very soft and easy to maintain. When it comes to the facial features and qualities of this particular breed, tall ears can be seen from time to time but usually, the Malchi has long, folded over ears that have a close resemblance to those of the Maltese.  His eyes are a lovely dark brown, and usually hidden behind a fringe of fur that hangs over the forehead like large eyebrows.

Malchi Breed Maintenance

The Malchi is moderately high maintenance due to the bright white variety of their coat. Even if you have a lighter tan or a cream colored Malchi, it is going to take a lot of work to make sure that their lovely fur stays free of stains and as close to that clean, light color as possible. In order to achieve this, frequent baths will be needed with careful concentration being applied to the face; specifically under the eyes and around the mouth where staining may occur. Be sure that after you bathe your dog, that you carefully clean and dry his ears. Because the Malchi tends to have folded over ears, the chance of extra moisture being trapped inside (and causing infection) is high. By drying the ears thoroughly, you can avoid nasty ear infections and any irritation that may occur. Brushing only needs to happen around three times a week with a regular pin brush and comb, as shedding is moderate and tangles will need to be removed if you have the longer haired version of this breed. Lastly, trim your Malchi's nails every few weeks in order to promote excellent paw health and decrease the chance of scratching if the dog jumps up on someone or something.

Malteses and Chihuahuas often suffer from glaucoma, progressive retinal atrophy, and patellar luxation. Secure pet health insurance today to avoid high veterinary care costs. Malchi Temperament

When the personalities of the Chihuahua and the Maltese combine, we get the gentle, playful, goofy, and affectionate Malchi. This breed takes after both his parent breeds quite well with the belief that he is a much bigger dog trapped in a tiny body. He is spirited, can be aggressive if allowed, and very protective of his family. While the Malchi is very loving to his people, there is very little tolerance in him for children of any age. Supervision should always occur with children as the Malchi may get snappy or snarly once annoyed. Thankfully, early socialization and training may help to curb this tendencies, but overall the Malchi is better fit for families without children or other animals. This breed does like to bark at anything and everything, so be prepared to have a constant barrage of talking each and every day. As far as trainability goes, the Malchi may have a stubborn streak thanks to the Chihuahua, but typically the Maltese side comes through and he will be relatively eager to please. On top of this, the great news is that your Malchi will always be excited to see you and will love to cuddle up on your lap after a long day. So, if you are looking for a small and jolly companion, the Malchi may be the perfect fit for you.

Malchi Activity Requirements

Both the Chihuahua and the Maltese don't mind physical activity, but when it comes down to it, they are lap dogs. Because of this, you can expect your Malchi to be relatively low energy. He will still love to run and play, but a brisk walk or a good training session a couple times a day will be enough to keep him satisfies. This makes the Malchi an excellent pet for older individuals or those who live in apartments. Keep in mind that training will be an excellent way to tire out your dog, as well as teach him manners that may prevent destruction of your property, and minimize barking (to some extent).

I just got her a week ago , so she is 12 weeks old. Thursday she will get her first shots. In just a week, she has learned to sit, make a toy squeek on demand and pick up a medicine bottle. Now we need to teach her to fetch as this will be one of the services she will provide. She will also be trained to fetch my cell phone too. Obidience training is a must. She is still a puppy and she has so much energy and she gets a little carried away with our other dog, a 14yr, old Shih Zu. She gets too amped up and she needs to have periodic time outs. I used to put her in a crate until she stopped whinning. Since she is so young and not crate trained, this method was put aside. Now, She is put on the couch or chair next to me and held down and petted until she mellows out. She constantly recieves praise for everything that she does positive and her intellegence amazes me. She has already learned 3 things in just a week. She will be getting her "service dog in training" harness soon, along with her registration number. Then she will learn to socialize use the doggy door and more. I believe with a lot of patience and understanding, she will be an excellent service dog for me. I have a blown out back and neck along with other medical needs. If your planning on training this dog yourself to be your service dog, please do not do it alone and make sure that your partner knows how to train animals without violence ! Good luck.

He is a very active little guy. Full of spuck he doesn't register a pound and he will just off the furniture if you aren't watching. I tought him to sit the very first day we rescued him. And he is all but potty trained in a week. When he did a pee inside it was all me because I was trying to finish up a chore in the house and he left me a suprise!

Whiskee is by far the smartest dog i've raised, and i've been thru a dozen different breeds. He's fast to learn new commands and eager to please. However, he has never been interested in fetching. If you throw one his toys, he just gets it and puts it back in his pile. In fact, he is a bit overly possessive of his toys, and sometimes i'll hide them all over just to come home to a nice neat pile again. He loves nothing more than finding a warm spot in the sunlight and taking naps. He does well with other dogs, especially after he gets to know them. He's even befriended a few cats. Although, if he feels challenged or threatened he can snap or chase other dogs or critters without fear. He's been skunked twice because of that behavior. He loves every human he meets, and has a certain fascination with toddlers. He loves to interact with kids. He is perfectly quiet and content 90% of the time... but when he decides to bark at something (usually a neighborhood cat or the wind) it's less of a bark and more of a scream. He doesn't do well if he's left alone... he tends to just scream until he realizes someone else is home, even if it's just our other dog (a 15 year old jack russell). He doesn't enjoy leashes, and frankly if he's with me he doesn't need one. He'll walk with me without wandering off. He loves to 'fly' when he jumps. He'll take running starts just to jump off ledges, and then do it again and again. Health-wise, the only problem he's had was when he was born his back legs didn't fully develop as he was much larger compared to his siblings. (even now he's twice as big as any of them). I fed him organs and powdered bones (home prepped) for his first 18 months until his back legs were strong. Now he's a healthy and happy pup. We gave him some obedience training and had him registered as a Support Dog, and he has visited hospitals and senior-homes and brought only smiles and love. he's my boy, and i Love him more than most people. Objectively tho, I could see how if someone wasn't familiar with dog raising, this breed may not be the easiest. He needs a lot of attention, and I could see one of this breed becoming a problem without proper and constant early training.

He’ll let you know when he wants a treat, bathroom trip outside, attention, toy, you name it. He was super easy to potty train from day 1 and he even knows how to sit, give paw(s), lay down and roll over. He knows when we’re feeling down and comes right over to make us feel better. He could do better with his barking, but hey, he’s just perfect!

Calli is a wonderful puppy. She loves to be playful, give kisses, plays with toes first thing after i put socks on. She is very good around children, but very wary of younger kids or kids she doesnt know picking her up. She has been very scared and skeptical of guys since she got fixed a year ago. She is such a sweet heart and very well trained. She was easy to teach tricks. She knows sit, lay down, crawl, shake, sit pretty, spin in circle, spin in circle on back paws and does high fives. Still working on how to train her to roll over. She has always loved to sit on my shoulder or be curled up by my neck. She loves car rides.she doesnt bark much unless someone is knocking on the door. She listens pretty good unless she has her sniffer going. She is skeptical of other dogs but is slowly warming up to playing with them, mostly smaller dogs, she is scared of bigger dogs but tiny little thing. Very energetic but loves naping and cuddling too. She is 1 year and 9 months almost

Luci is very energetic and playful, loves to throw her plushy toys in the air for her to chase. She is very eager to please, so training is a breeze. So far she knows sit, lay down, roll over, roll over the other way, jump, shake, stay, and cute and cuddly (where she paws at her ears. She's a bit barky towards men she doesn't know, though warms up pretty quickly, demanding lap cuddles. She does have quite a bit of seperation anxiety. She loves going to the dog park and playing with other dogs, she seems to think any sized dog is a new friend.

He is definitely not 11 to 12 pounds. He’s been between 20-23lbs since about 2 years old, and he’s still relatively thin, you can still feel his ribs. He doesn’t have a large appetite and is very picky and loves things a certain way, or else he won’t have anything to do with it. He’s very clingy and loves to be on my lap and be with me 24/7. He has lots of energy and is willing to do any kind of exercise, but he’s just as happy to lay around the house all day. He doesn’t like kids, or other dogs, but he will tolerate other people. He’s very, very sweet, and incredibly smart. He acts like he thinks he’s a human, and expects you to treat him so. All in all he’s the best friend I’ve ever had, and one of the most spunky, personality filled pups I’ve ever owned.

He is a loyal dog to a small group of individuals and dislikes "strangers" in his territory. Though, he is friendly if given the right circumstances. He is energetic and will play until the sun has set. He hates bath time but is pretty low maintenance, in my opinion. Because of his sister (older Maltese), he has developed a motivation for food, though, not as strongly as her. Because of his Chihuahua father, he has a short attention span and can be a bit difficult to train. He also is really cautions and wants to know about everything that happens around him.

My dog ziggy is the greatest dog ive had for the past 9 years now. He isnt exactly the trainable type but that doesnt matter. He loves his piki a boo. But he can be very protective around me since ive had him since he was 8 weeks old. Hes my best friend. Sometimes we have issues but dont all best friends? The only two major things that i dislike about him is his possible health issues and his barking. But he also used to have terrible separation anxiety for years but that was because he was abused by his breeders since we got him at 8 weeks old. But ive loved him since i met him and i will love him till the last day he lives. You should get a dog like this. He or she will be your best friend forever.

He's a very active dog even for my 8 yr old buy when he finally calms down he will sit on your lap by your lap or with you on bed. He is a feisty dog and barks at people he don't know or care to know! He is very clingy and affectionate... A little too clingy! But I wouldn't trade him for the world... He does how ever chew on everything but his chew toys even on socks and shoes and our hands.

Lumos is a very kind and Loving dog. He doesn't bark at all. He also is very kind to kids and other people. It was easy to potty train him, even though some people said it would be hard. He is a beautiful black and white boy. More like a black maltese. We do need to vroom him a lot. His hair tends to stick together very easily. Overall, he's a good boy and we love him dearly!

We got Sami as a puppy for my daughter when she was sixteen and she has been there for my daughter (and now her husband) ever since. She has adapted well to the multiple apartment moves typical of a young couple. She did quite well when my daughter adopted another dog (husky mix) five years ago. While her"sister" dog is three times bigger, Sami is the boss. Sami's biggest health problem is her weight. Don't tell her that I said this, but Sami is quite pudgy. My advice to new owners: no scraps from the dinner table! It is fun to see them so happy at a treat, but very hard to deny them later. Sami is so smart that she knows how to direct her larger sister to get into the garbage can looking for scraps and then pretends she had nothing to do with it when her mom gets home and finds the mess. Sami is incredibly well behaved in public. My daughter has been known to smuggle her into the store and push her around in the cart like a baby. Sami is wary of children but not aggressive towards them. She was the star of my daughter's wedding and handled the crowd well in fulfilling her duty as ring bearer. I have to admit that Sami is my favorite of my eight granddogs. Don't tell them that. She is the perfect companion animal... So smart, able to tolerate life changes, affectionate, low maintenance for two working human parents. Very healthy even in middle age. She barked a lot when younger, but was able to be trained out of that behavior. Love this dog!

I got my boy for my mother to replace a dog she lost and mourned but he decided that I was going to be his human. I got him when he was about 8 weeks old and he is the love of my life. I had to rock and bounce him asleep like a baby and end the night with a kiss on the nose. When he woke up I had to do it all over again. He helped me when my mother passed a few months later and again 6 months later when my senior (he was 14 year old) dog passed away. Now that I am working I get to come home to a happy, wiggly butt and wet kisses from my soul dog. We love to snuggle and relax together watching television. I never get to go to the bathroom alone nor take a shower alone. I am followed everywhere by my little white shadow. He does bark a lot but I ask if he is protecting his momma and he runs to me wanting to be picked up. He gets along with Kyra(my chi/rattie mix) and Ava (my cat) plus my sisters two dogs but others he will not tolerate. I love my Oscar more than anything.

He is loving and affectionate. He love to play and cuddle and go for rides in the car.He is actually pretty good with kids if he knows them not so much with ones he doesn't know. He always tells us when he has to go potty but if we aren't home he uses his potty pads. Only problem we have is he itches and he gets hotspots quite a bit but we got some hotspot spray for him and he looses hair quite a bit we usually put a sweater on him so his hair will grow back. We love our malchi he is like our child.

I got Evie (Everly is her actual name) back in April 2020. It was love at first sight for me. She is the ideal puppy dog for me. A great companion, (either follows me everywhere or wants me to pick her up like a baby) I never feel lonely having her company. Evie's super loving, playful, and quick to learn. Best doggie I've ever had.

She is very loyal, funny and a goof ball. Independent and loved to play with her toys. She’s so sweet and smart, loves to cuddle, will let you know if she wants somthing. Barks too much though but everything else out weighs it. Why at first but friendly toward people and other dogs big and small. Great routine dog. Potty trained fairly rapidly.

Chelsea is my first dog. I adopted her when she was 8 months. She is a good companion. She is lovely but sometimes she is overprotective. She has a tiny and thin body (even though she never feel full after eating) that I can really feel her rib when I rub her stomach. I treat her like a baby, I love to pick her up. She is loyal. She follows me everywhere and even wait around while I’m taking a bath. She barks too much towards a new people especially children. But still she is my best friend and I love her.

Zeva is my baby girl and I adore her. She comes first. (especially now my 4 sons are adults) She is such a diva. She is very needy and wraps us around her little paws. She can be very stubborn at times, especially if it’s raining outside. She doesn’t do rain. If I open the back door for her to go out and it’s raining, she like No Mommy, it’s the wet stuff,, I’m not going out in that. Get me a puppy pad instead. Now if it’s a Snow Day ❄️☃️ then wow, she is soooo excited and cute. She loves to play out in the snow as long as it’s fresh and new snow fall. Doesn’t care for slushy mucky snow. 😆. She is the King of her castle and will bark at everyone who dares to approach her domain. She follows me everywhere in the house, but won’t pay any attention to me when she’s called back while off the lead on her walks. She thinks the fields where we walk belong to her and any trespassers should be told off. Little dog syndrome. She has phantom pregnancies, then her squeak ball becomes her baby and has to go everywhere with us. She wants to go everywhere with me and loves going out in the car. (front seat obviously) She is funny, cute, loving, very vocal and I just adore her.

She is very goofy at times but mostly she likes to rest and sleep, loves laying by my side, loves tummy rubs and to be brushed. she likes riding in the car and will climb up my back and lay between me and the seat. she loves to give me kisses, she was also fairly easy to train to potty outside. she doesn't eat a lot of dog food which concerns me but i try to get her to eat as much as she can. sometimes she won't even eat treats lol. She is such a sweet dog and i couldn't have asked for a better first dog ❤️
