Saint Pyrenees

Ember is a wonderful addition to our family of 5. We have children ranging in all age groups as well as an English mastiff and lab/german shepherd mix that she gets along with beautifully. Grooming is a daily activity as she sheds quite a lot. She is gentle and eager to learn. She is also the most curious puppy we have ever had, and you can find her sitting and “studying” her environment. Ember is full of personality and sass! We have absolutely fallen in love with this breed!

We have had many dogs, always large dogs. He is by far the sweetest, friendliest, gentlest dog we have ever had. He drools quite a bit and constantly sheds, but if that is what we have to contend with to get an amazing dog, I’m ok with it. His stubborn nature has decreased with age. He is amazing with children and the elderly. I would get another dog like him without hesitation.

Apollo is a sweet puppy. He is now getting active and loves to play with our dogs. He loves to eat and is so excited when he hears the food go into the bowl. Apollo has a super fluffy coat with a St Bernard looking face. Apollo has been a great additon to our family.

We have the most adorable lovee dog! He’s cuddly, gentle, and sometimes just a little too excitable. He’s giant too!

Very smart and loves his family! Also, loves to play!! He is already very protective of his family too!

Max is a new addition to the family and is amazing with our other dog and loves to play.

Our Junie girl is one giant gentle teddy bear. She prefers to be outside most the day, either roaming the property or just sitting watch. She has been raised with very small kids and her favorite play mate is our 3 yr old- June will lay and roll on the floor all day long with her if she can. She had a kitten who is her outdoor fur buddy and they lay together in the sun. We always know when someone is approaching because she is quick to alert. She also keeps tabs on the kids and recently pushed her way out a gate when she saw our 6 yr old walking further than he should for the bus stop!

We rescued him and he's such a blessing! He gets along with our border collie wonderfully. He has brought new life into our home!

I have had saint bernards for the past 20 years, Gaston is my first Saint Pyrenees and I absolutely love him! He barks more than a saint, and at the silliest things but he is obedient and wants to please. He enjoys watching movies on the sofa with me, going on long car rides and trips thru the drive thru of starbucks for bacon. He is a love oh yes and he loves to sleep.

Very fun and adorable. She has a mind of her own at times but the older she gets the better behaved she is. Very lovable. Let's me know when it's time to eat.

This is our first experience with this breed

Before Shadow, I had a much beloved female Great Pyrenees (Shiloh) who died at 11 y.o. on 16th May 2017. I was not thinking of getting another dog because I am now 67 y.o. but my heart was so broken but when I saw Shadow, I drove 6 hours return to go get her. Met her mom a super affectionate Pyr. Shadow was quite a bundle for the first few months and at 2 months old she would obey commands like sit, lie down, come here and both paws. Then I taught her 'wait' (I have difficulty walking & going up/down the stairs), 'come eat your food', 'leave it', 'up' and 'down' with the car. Then one day I told her that she has to tell me clearly what she wanted. To my surprise, when she wants to go outside she touches the door knob or points at the door, when she wants to fresh water she points to the kitchen sink and for food or treats she makes a particuler kind of mumbling. Teaching her not to pull when walking is taking longer but learned quickly not to get tangled around trees or posts. Also teaching her to stop barking. She looks more like a St-Bernard, she is black and white with similar markings of the St-Bernard and most people think she is a St-Bernard or a Newfoundland Landseer. As for her temperament, she reminds me a lot of Shiloh because Pyrs do not eat as much as other same size dogs and I feed her raw diet. Very gentle when she takes food/treats from my fingers. I have 2 male cats and they all love each other, licking each other, sleeping side by side with Shadow putting her paw over while sleeping. Shadow is also very funny and very expressive with her face. All the things she does like Shiloh is amazing, just seems like Shiloh somehow taught her. Inside, she is always by my side wherever I am. At the dog park, she is very gentle with the little dogs and everybody loves her and the way she plays with all the dogs. She is submissive with no grain of meanness or aggressivity. We go to dog park almost everyday (between 40 minutes to 2-1/2 hours), playing in the backyard 2-3 times a day, and take her for 20 minutes walks as often as I can. I live alone with no relatives and no friends, so Shadow and my cats (Bailey and Bizou) are my family and treat them as such. We all love each other unconditionnally. I feel very blessed and happy to have them with me.

Sadie Grace is a rescue from a puppy mill. She had her first litter of 14 before she even turned one. I rescued her when they took her puppy’s away around 2 weeks due to her losing her milk. She loves all other animals, skittish around adult males, she has to be with my toddlers at all times of she gets anxious. Her favorite thing to do is be snuggled by kids she seems her happiest when she is playing and loving on the kids.

My sweet boy Darby is rescue. We have many sheep ranches on the western slopes of Colorado that produce many unregistered working dogs that routinely get dumped. I only mention this because he is not full St. Pyrenees. He also has some akbash mixed in there as well. Considering he was a outdoor working puppy and then in the pound he took to inside living really fast. Potty training wasn't even a issue. It took him a bit to get used to flooring and inside noises but within a month he was happily dozing on my bed. However, he has never gotten used to plastics so he won't play with a lot of toys or use plastic bowls. He mainly plays with sticks and ropes. he barks. He barks a lot. He seems to be able to hear a butterfly sneeze a mile off and will go nuts. He is slowly learning "that's enough" but it's been a uphill battle lol. This is not a struggle because he is not bright, however. More because of his intense independence and need to protect us. He is actually a very smart pup. Commands and tricks were learned within days but he does them when he wants lol. He is very good at communicating. He tosses his head in certain ways accompanied with different barks to tell me what he needs ( going out, water, "danger" at the front, "danger" at the back, the cats are fighting, ect). Speaking of cats. Overall, he seems to hate them.i am fostering two cats, two kittens then have two myself. We have to really watch him with the four cats but he seems to protect the kittens. He will lay outside thier door to keep the cats away and will Chase off the other cats. He does not do well with other dogs. I can not take him to dog parks or trust him off leash. I usually head out to BLM land to let him roam for a few hours which I find has been a necessary activity for him. And that boy can wander lol during the winter there have been a few days when I could not take him out and it really shows the next day. He will become even more hyper vigilant with his barking if he doesn't get either his neighbor hood walk of 25+ minutes a day and his few times of BLM off leash roaming. These are the only precautions I can think of. Other then these things he is a wonderful love bug. Once he is introduced to guests he is thier best bud. Meeting people off the property he is everyone's friend. Everyone wants to love in him, even non dog people and he lives the attention. He seems great with kids and is pretty gentle with them. The drool is very minimal, usually showing up only when waiting to be fed. He loves to snuggle up and sleep next to people and can always be found by someone's side at home. He has never been aggressive to any of us, even when he was very new to all this and very timid. I do need to brush his hind quarters, Under belly, ruff and tail daily as they can mat up quickly but thankfully he likes the brushing lol I feed him 2 cups of dry food in the morning then 2 cups at night with 1 cup of fresh pet and pumpkin mixed with water. He also gets a can of sardines in water and two hard boiled eggs a week. He drinks a lot of water and he always needs more water lol he is very good motivated and he would not do well with free range eating. But that could be due to his past. When he was found he weighed only 73 pounds which could be the cause for his love of food. He is almost three now and he stopped fully growing around 2 and half. He is now at a healthy weight of 124 pounds. At 135 he was getting a bit chubby. He has had no ear infections or allergies and does pretty good on his own for long periods of time but like it was said in the article, he would prefer to be by my side. He is my sweet, smart boy and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

We’ve had Bandit a little over a year. Bandit is amazing with kids! My nine year old daughter is crazy for her big boy and he loves her so much. He’s one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever had. He’s quickly become a town favorite here in my small town in N. Colorado. People have to stop and give him love and he eats it all up. He’s a little needy with the affection. He can’t get enough. He moves like a linebacker when he’s out in the field running around. He’s very playful! I’m so happy he’s apart of our family.

Sweet, loving dog. Learns easily and is eager to please. Only downside is thar altholugh i feed him appropriately, he always seems hungry. Very food morivated. At 7 months he is close to 100lb

Huck is a wonderful addition to our pack. He is the biggest dog by at least 100 lbs and is so gentle with the others who are between 4 and 25 lbs. He likes to snuggle in our bed and gently places each foot as to not squish his brothers and sisters. He loves everyone the minute he sees them. He loves to give hugs, but is slowly learning he needs to be invited first. He draws a lot of attention wherever he goes and willingly soaks it up. He has only “alerted” us to one person he has crossed paths with and we were very quick to follow his lead. It was such a strange behavior for him. He is the baritone in our six dog choir whenever an emergency vehicle goes by. We get to enjoy the impromptu recitals often as we are a quarter mile away from the only fire station in town. We are truly grateful this gentle giant has joined our family.

got her as a rescue at 6 months old. she is super friendly with females and children=takes awhile with males. Cannot chase her she has to come to you.will not get in car so scared. she is just like a big teddy bear want to be loved on and be with you

He's just a puppy but has proven to be a very quick learner, great with our kids and a giant love bug. I look forward to this new journey as a Saint Pyrenees owner

She is loving to everyone she meets. A little timid at first. She is massive. And the shedding can be overwhelming if you are not prepared for it.

She is so sweet and cute and so much fun.

She’s very lovable. Struggling with potty training right now. She hasn’t barked. Loves being with the family. Not shedding a lot now but I am prepared when she does.

Borgia is super affectionate, he wants kisses as soon as he wakes up and that continues throughout the whole day. He has lots of energy, but still loves those naps. We have 3 kids, a 5yo pointer/bluetick coonhound, Einstein (they’re best buddies). He loves our 3 cats as well, 2 share those feelings back lol. No matter where we go, he stays right with us. He loves everyone and every animal. He is showing the signs already of being very protective of his family, especially over me, I’m mama, and our two young daughters. We’re blessed to have him as part of the family now.

Patch is a real snuggle bug. He loves playing tug-a-war and is very treat motivated. Although he doesn’t look like a typical “Saint Pyrenees” because his coat is black with white on his paws and chest, he has all the wonderful characteristics! He likes to spend most of his day snoozing, but gets the zoomies sometimes and because he’s already 70+ lbs, it’s a lot to handle! I adore him

Compared to my Labradoodle, Gracie is very low-key. She loves her walks but is pretty much done after 30-40 minutes. She is affectionate and very smart - she has figured out how to open doors, windows and gates. She is smart but very, very stubborn...she likes to do things on her terms. She is very capable of learning new things but it does take persistence and time. Gracie has grown up during the pandemic, so has not had a lot of exposure to new people or other dogs. She is timid and can react seemingly aggressively, but it's all show. She's a gentle beast - has never been muzzled for vet or grooming etc. Shedding is high. Drooling is medium. She did have a fairly serious digestive issue at 8 months, and is sensitive with diet. Besides squirrels she has a fairly low prey drive. She doesn't play fetch or like balls - just looks at me when I throw them. lol. She does however go crazy when sheep come up on the TV... (Anthony Bourdain Croatia episode made her wild), which has to be genetic as she's never seen a sheep for real. She does herd people though, and pokes us in the butt when she wants something. Overall she's very sweet. A little on the protective side, but again, the pandemic and resulting social isolation + us being with her 24 hrs a day I think is a contributing factor.
