Sceagle

Since the Sceagle is a designer breed that has only been around for about 20 years, they are still pretty rare and do not have a history yet. The backgrounds of the Beagle and the Scottish Terrier are used to get a history of the breed. The Beagle has been hunting and scenting in the woods of England since the 1300s. The breed is thought to have been created by mixing a Talbot Hound, Southern Hound, and North Country Beagle to get a gentle dog with the talent to scent and trail rabbits. According the the French, the word beagle means open throat and the name was given to the Beagle due to the way they sound when they bay or howl. In the early 20^th century, the Beagle started being modified to make a more uniform size and personality for hunting and to be a good family pet. The Beagle became well-known when the breed was depicted in the Charlie Brown cartoons as Snoopy and American President Lyndon Johnson had a Beagle when he lived in the White House. The National Beagle Club was developed in 1888, two years after the breed was acknowledged by the American Kennel Club where the Beagle is the 5^th most popular dog in the country. The Scottish Terrier originated in Scotland in the 18^th century but it was first named the Aberdeen Terrier because the small town where it was first found. It was also nicknamed the little diehard because of its ability to keep going and going. They were originally bred from the West Highland White Terrier, Cairn Terrier, and Skye Terrier to hunt badgers, foxes, otter, and rabbits. However, they were soon found to be excellent companions and moved indoors with the family. They have been well-known as pets of presidents, in movies, and even as a token in the Monopoly game. In 1885, they were accepted by the American Kennel Club where they are the 58^th most popular breed of dog.
