We rescued her as a puppy. My father worked at a 7-11, graveyard shift. He wore a long beard. One night, a lady walked in around 3 am with a puppy in her handbag. My father saw this and asked to hold the puppy. The lady gladly consented. When my dad picked up the puppy, she crawled under his long beard and curled up there. It was love at first sight for both of them. Dad then asked her where she had found this little angel. The lady said the puppy had been wandering the parking lot. Dad's next question was if he could keep her. Again, the lady gladly said yes. So Dad, being the kind soul that he was, set up a milk crate with soft towels in the bottom and put the puppy in the crate. At first, he put her in the back of the store. But she kept fussing. He then moved the crate behind the register. She immediately fell asleep. He brought her home, named her Princess, and proceeded to bond with her so deeply, I have never seen anything quite like it. He told me once that he said to Mom, "I will sleep outside with the dog if you don't want to keep her". Fortunately, that never needed to happen. Fifteen years later, and 3 years after my father's passing, we still have her. She's blind and almost deaf from age, but she still enjoys being around my mom and I. We still love her as the sweet, innocent, adorable angel that she is and we will love her as deeply as humans ever can till the end and far beyond.
