As shown in the name, the Siberpoo is a hybrid breed made from a Siberian Husky and a Poodle. These dogs are very adaptable to the climate and can do well in both the heat or the cold. They have a very low tolerance to solitude and will need to be given frequent attention or they may develop separation anxiety. Although they can live in apartments, these dogs would do best living in a home that has a yard. This hybrid has an average lifespan of 10 to 13 years and usually gets along well with all types of pets. They are well behaved around people of all ages as well, although they should be watched around small children at first and may be too energetic for the elderly.

Siberpoo Breed History

The Siberpoo is an example of a hybrid or designer dog. This means that the breed was created from two different purebred breeds. In this case, it is the Siberian Husky and the Poodle who have come together to create the Siberpoo. Poodles are dogs that were originally created to be retrievers and hunters of waterfowl. However, later on these dogs were given the task to sniff out truffles in France. They came from Germany and Russia since the 16th century, although the smaller version of these dogs was developed in France. The Poodle has three different varieties that are characterized by size; the Standard Poodle, the Miniature Poodle and the Toy Poodle.

They are thought to be related to the Portuguese Water Dog and the Irish Water Spaniel. Later on in the 18th century, this breed had become a very popular circus performer. Today, the Poodle is thought to be one of the smartest dogs breeds and they excel at many canine sports and activities. Based on results from DNA tests, the Siberian Husky is one of the oldest dog breeds. They come from a group of Siberian nomads named the Chukchi, who used them as sled dogs and family pets. Because these people would castrate all but the best sled dogs and would not breed them with any other types of canine, this breed remained pure and improved for over 3000 years.

In 1908 this breed was introduced from Alaska when they were used in dog sled races, which they excelled at. Leonhard Seppala was a driver of a Siberian Husky team that won the All-Alaska Sweepstakes for three years running, from 1915 to 1917. In 1925, there was a diphtheria epidemic and the same man drove one of the teams of Siberian Husky to Nome, Alaska to bring serum.

Siberpoo Breed Appearance

The Siberpoo can have an appearance which varies from dog to dog. Some may look more like the Siberian Husky parent, whereas others could more distinctly show traits from the Poodle. Siberpoos are usually large dogs that have rounded heads and ears that hang down. In most cases, the eyes are small and dark. The noses are black and the bodies are strong and sturdy. These dogs have double coats which can resemble either that of the Siberian Husky or the Poodle. This means that for some Siberpoo offspring the coat can be silky, long and wavy, whereas for others it will be curly and wiry instead.

These dogs can be white, black or brown and sometimes there are markings located on the dog’s face and chest. To find out a more accurate description of the possible traits, research an in depth appearance of the Siberian Husky and the Poodle. Siberpoo Breed Maintenance

The Siberpoo is fairly easy to take care of, as they have low to moderate shedding levels. However, they should still be brushed daily and the grooming routine will vary with the type of coat. If they have fur like a Poodle, the Siberpoo will need to be groomed daily along with regular clipping by a professional groomer every couple of months. Dogs who have a coat similar to the Siberian Husky should be brushed every other day and will need baths when they get dirty.

Do not bathe your dog too often, however, as it can harm the natural oils of the skin. Other requirements include clipping the nails, which should be done two or three times each month. To lower the risk of ear infections, the ears should be wiped clean once per week. At least two or three times per week all dogs should have their teeth brushed. This will keep the gums healthy and teeth from decaying and improve their overall health.

Insuring your Siberpoo puppy as soon as “pawssible” is essential for preventing high vet care costs. Start comparing insurance plans from leading insurers like Healthy Paws and Embrace and save over $270 a year.

Siberpoo Temperament

The Siberpoo is a sweet and friendly breed that needs attention, otherwise they may act up. This breed fits best in homes with couples or families with older kids. They are quite active and will need owners who can be active enough to keep up with them. The Siberpoo is a very loving and loyal dog that can be well behaved around children as long as they are properly socialized; the same goes for other pets and dogs. They are a good choice for owners who are inexperienced with owning dogs, although there might be some difficulty training them. They are, overall, cheerful and expressive pets. As with all breeds, proper training and socialization as a puppy can make all the difference in raising a calm and obedient dog. They should be put through obedience training and should be introduced to new places and people while they are young. Make sure to be kind and positive while teaching your dog, but make it clear that you are the pack leader and not them.

Siberpoo Activity Requirements

These dogs are fairly active and should be taken on a walk daily. They will also need some free time to play and run in a fenced in yard. These dogs will do best living in a house with an easily accessible yard, although an apartment will do as long as they are exercised enough. The Siberpoo enjoys playing fetch, playing and swimming in the water, going to the dog park and playing with toys. Since they are such an intelligent breed, they will need some mental exercise as well as physical. A good way to keep them occupied is to have a few toys that you can swap out every once and awhile. You should spend around 30 to 45 minutes per day being active with your Siberpoo dog.
