Transylvizsla Hound

The Transylvizsla Hound does not have a history yet since they are a new breed but you should be able to get an idea of their background by looking at the Transylvanian Hound and Vizsla histories. The Transylvanian Hound is also called the Hungarian Hound and was bred from scent hounds in the ninth century to hunt large animals such as boar, bison, lynx, and bear. They are thought to have been bred from Asian and Celtic Hounds by the Magyar Tribe from Hungary back in 800 A.D. to hunt in the Carpathian Mountains. There were two types, the short-legged and the long-legged, which were separated by size for hunting different sized game. They almost became extinct in the 1100s, when people were more focused on farming than hunting but those who loved the breed kept it going. It was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 2006 and the American Kennel Club has let them be registered in their stock services in 2015 to eventually be a full-fledged member of the club someday. The Vizsla is also a Hungarian breed noticed in the middle ages as a pointer. They were bred from the Turkish Yellow Dog, Transylvanian Hound, and Weimaraner in the 10th century. They were named for their pointing ability but are also known for their scenting and trailing abilities. According to ancient stone etching and writings, the Magyars hunted with this breed and falcons. The Vizsla was a noble breed only owned by royal families in Hungary at first but were eventually popular with commoners after the breed almost went into extinction after World War II. The breed finally made it to America in the 1950s where it was recognized by the AKC in 1960 and they are the 31st most well-liked dog breed.
