Weiler Dane

The Weiler Dane features traits inherited from both of his parent's unique lines. The Rottweiler is a noble guardian. He was once a herding dog. His duties included keeping the flock safe and he took that responsibility very seriously. The Rottie is believed to be an ancient breed that hails back to the days of the Roman Empire. When the Roman army travelled across the Swiss Alps and entered the lands of Germany, they brought the Rottweiler. The dogs quickly gained favor as cattle drovers. They became known as Rottweiler Metzgerhunds, which translates into "butcher dogs". 

During the nineteenth century, cattle herding experienced a decline and the dog breed suffered. By the 1880s, the breed was scarce. When World War I erupted, the breed again regained popularity as police canines and dogs of war. In 1931, the Rottweiler was recognized by the American Kennel Club and entered into the Working Group. The large Great Dane can be traced back to 3,000 BC. It is believed to have originated in Egypt.  The Assyrians spread the breed around the world during their travels. The Romans and Greeks also took an interest in the pooches and started breeding them. 

Their popularity spread throughout Europe and they were often known as the Boar Hound because they were used to hunt boars. In 1700, the large, lumbering canines of Denmark started to be called the Great Dane. In 1889, the Great Dane was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club and was entered into the Working Group. The Weiler Dane possesses many of its parent breed's noble characteristics, to create an ideal mixed breed.
