His small size makes him ideal for an apartment lifestyle or for a small home. He stands 8 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weighs 7 to 15 pounds. Unlike many small dogs, he is extremely calm and rarely barks. He loves to have ample attention lavished on him every day. Yorkie-Apso Breed History

The Yorkie-Apso is the ideal combination of both of his parent breeds. The Lhasa Apso is considered a sacred dog in Tibet. He is named after the holy city of Lhasa. The breed was a favored pet of the Buddhist monks at the monasteries. They kept the small pooches as beloved pets and watchdogs. The Dalai Lama would often give the petite dogs as gifts to favored visitors. In 1933, an American naturalist was bestowed with a pair of the tiny canines. He took them back to the United States and used the dogs as the foundation for the first Lhasa Apso kennel in the country. The American Kennel Club officially recognized the breed in 1935 and they were entered into the Toy Group. The Yorkshire Terrier was first bred in Yorkshire England. This feisty dog was bred to be a fearless ratter to control the rodent population in the region’s mines. Hunters also favored the tiny dogs and used them to hunt fox and badger. The Yorkie would bravely follow the prey into the prey’s den. A pooch named Huddersfield Ben was the foundation stud for the Yorkie.  In 1872, the first Yorkies entered the United States and quickly became a favored pampered pet. The American Kennel Club officially recognized the breed in 1885 and it was entered into the Toy Group.

Yorkie-Apso Breed Appearance

The small Yorkie-Apso often appears in attractive shades of black, tan, reddish-brown, or brown. His tiny ears are held high on his head and droop down in a flopped fashion. The muzzle is medium length and his head is rounded. He has soft, almond-shaped eyes. Normally, his nose is black like a tiny black button but it can also be brown.  He has tiny catlike feet that usually feature black toenails. He is an attractive combination of both parents and walks with a perky gait.

Yorkie-Apso Breed Maintenance

The Yorkie-Apso has a soft, fluffy coat that requires daily brushing. A slicker brush will work very well in this hybrid's coat. Most owners opt to have their dog’s coat trimmed professionally once a month to maintain his coat length and prevent tangles. As well, the groomer can clip around the eyes if needed. His small nails should be clipped once or twice a month to keep them short. It is advisable that you brush his teeth a few times a week to prevent plaque buildup as smaller hybrids are prone to decay and tooth loss. His tiny ears can be wiped out every couple of weeks with a soft washcloth to remove any debris.

Yorkie-Apso Temperament

The Yorkie-Apso adores his family. He is loving and makes the perfect lapdog. The tiny fellow can be very aloof around strangers and often reserves his affection only for close members of his family. He can bond very closely with his beloved human and will often suffer from separation anxiety. This little guy loves being the only dog which makes him the center of attention. He often has a hard time adjusting to another pooch in the household. However, when raised as a puppy around other pets he will usually get along fine with them. Owners should always be patient with the Yorkie-Apso because he does have a stubborn streak. Early obedience classes are highly recommended.

Yorkie-Apso Activity Requirements

The Yorkie-Apso does not require a great deal of exercise to be happy. A short walk every day and a bit of playtime will usually satisfy his activity requirements. He does enjoy a jaunt to the dog park where he can run free and interact with other canines. HIs quick intelligence makes him a great choice to enroll in obedience classes. Because the little dog can suffer from severe separation anxiety, most owners take their small dogs wherever they go. He usually loves riding in the car and going on an adventure with his owner.

King has always been a Senior companion dog. He was originally give to my daughters mother in law as a puppy. When she passed my daughter kept him. She was visiting out of state one summer so I kept him. He took to my father in his late 80's right away. They enjoyed walks together, which kept my father moving. King was his protector. No one went near dad without Kings approval. My dad passed last year at age 96, and I now have King. He is so sweet and a great comfort to me, I am 70.

Pretty sure he has ADHD as he get easily excited and does bark a lot. So lovable though, even around strangers and small children. Also very handsome and cuddly. We love him even if he is a bit stupid.

I love him to death, but he is very stubborn and hard to potty train. My previous Apso-Schauzer mix was potty trained by 10 weeks old. But Boston, not sure how long he will take. I’m most likely going to put him in obiedence classes.

First time with this breed. She has a habit of jumping up with her mouth open and she think that she has thinks she has to nip at you.,I tell her stop, and to sit. I know she's a puppy, but imwant her to learn not to do this behavior to anyone.

Likes: treats (favourite is venison sausages), food (especially meat), toys ("squeaky", “teddy”, and tiny tennis balls), long walks on sunny days, exploring new places, running on the sand, lots and lots of fuss, sleeping, hogging the bed, guests (preferably with treats), and saying hello to other dogs and their humans. Dislikes: having baths, medicine, having her paws groomed, getting muddy, wind or rain, thunder, fireworks, and excited puppies (often forgets she used to be one)

Bennie has more recently been a lazy dog considering he doesn’t like to do much. He doesn’t like to walk from the couch to his food bowl, but will walk from there to the bedroom to go and lay down on the bed 😆😅. I love this dog, but sometimes he's a handful. He can be somewhat easy to train, but it really depends; Other than that, he's an amazing, lovable, and adorable little dog you could ever ask for...he can get jealous easily though 😆

He is such a sweetheart! He will cuddle with you when he is sleepy and play with you 24/7! He is a little afraid of his food bowl but he is getting better with it. He also likes to sleep under furniture like seats or tables, which scares me sometimes cause our coffee table is glass and it’s his favorite place to sleep! He will follow you anywhere though! We definitely have him spoiled already! We got him almost 7 weeks from my dead beat dad(We were forced to get him a day earlier than expected). He loves sleeping with my aunt and uncle on our couch(They have back problems and anxiety so they sleep in the couch lol). His dad is a full blood yorkie and his mom was a Lasa, I can definitely see both of them in him physically and personally wise! We are so happy to have him as a part of our family, he definitely has made our life’s better in every way!

She’s absolutely adorable, we can’t get enough of her. So far she’s been fairly easy to train. We have an older Japanese chin dog and they seem to clash at the moment, hoping for that to pass. Cant seem to get her to poop on her wee wee pad.
