Drool in the Pool
The Central Nebraska Humane Society hosts an annual Drool in the Pool event each August that gives local dogs the chance to enjoy the water one last time before the pools close for the season. From 7:30 pm to 9 pm on a Sunday, head over to Island Oasis for a night of swimming!
Your dog will enjoy meeting new friends, splashing around, and swimming. To keep everyone safe, humans are not allowed to swim in the pool with their pooches, but they can help their dog into the water up to knee deep.
Check-in starts at 7:15 pm and admission is $10 per dog. Only one dog is allowed per adult.

Paws & Pals Wag & Walk
Each September, the Paws & Pals Wag & Walk event comes to Yanney Heritage Park! Starting at 9 am, join other local dogs and their owners for a two-mile walk around the lake in the park. After the walk, there will be a festival with all kinds of fun activities for the whole family.
While adults try to win door and raffle prizes, kids can enjoy the bouncy house and face painting station. Past raffle prizes have included tickets to a Husker football game and a flat-screen TV. Make a donation to Kearney Area Animal Shelter and your dog can have a nice bath during the event!
Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children. Proceeds go to the Kearney Area Animal Shelter.

Puppy Plunge
If you have a dog that loves to swim, the Puppy Plunge event at the Centennial Pool in Kearney is a must! The Kearney Area Animal Shelter hosts this annual dog swimming event as the last splash of the summer. Let your dog socialize with other canines in the area of a similar size during one of the two time slots at the Puppy Plunge.
From 5:30 pm to 7 pm on a Wednesday each August, small dogs are free to swim in the Centennial Pool. Large dogs are welcome to start swimming at 7 pm, and their time is up at 8:30 pm.
Admission is $8 per dog, and proceeds benefit Kearney Area Animal Shelter. Pre-registration is required at the KPR Office and dogs must be up-to-date on vaccinations.12
McKinney’s Pub
If you want to enjoy a drink at a local Irish Pub, but don’t want to leave your dog at home, McKinney’s Pub is the perfect spot for you! The outdoor patio at McKinney’s is the perfect place for you and your dog to enjoy beautiful weather together, while you enjoy great beer or whiskey and foods like Irish Stew, Murphy’s Pulled Pork Sandwich, and Apple Crisp.
Dogs must remain on a leash, but wait staff will bring out water for your pup if needed!
