The Colony
If you and your pooch are in The Colony neighborhood of Georgetown, you’re in for a treat! It’s here that you can find the Scott County Park and Dog Park. This park is about 67 acres, and has something for everyone, featuring athletic fields, walking trails, and best of all, an off-leash area! The dog park can be found on the south side of the park and offers a place for your pupper to enjoy some off-leash freedom and pawsitive socialization in a safe environment. As the name implies, this park is situated along the North Elkhorn Creek that meanders through Georgetown. The park is designed to resemble a Japanese strolling garden, with plants and terrain that are native to Japan and Kentucky. The park also offers areas to enjoy the peaceful creek, gardens, and koi pond, like walking trails and picnic areas. Leashed dogs are welcome here! It might sound strange to go to a horse park with your dog, but the Kentucky Horse Park is Kentucky’s largest state-owned tourist attraction, and is dog friendly! This park just a 15 minute drive away from Georgetown, and is located in the neighborhood of Spindletop, in Lexington. The park is dedicated to sharing Kentucky’s love of horses, and features a working horse farm, educational theme park, and a competition facility. Dogs are allowed throughout the entire park except for within the museums and the restaurant. If you want to stay in this area for a while, you’re in luck! The Kentucky Horse Park also features a campground with 260 sites offering water, electricity, and modern restrooms. Leashed dogs are welcome to make themselves at home!
