One of the best ways to enjoy Owensboro’s natural beauty is to hit the Rudy Mine Trails inside Ben Hawes Park. The single and double track trails, which stretch more than seven miles, accommodate all skill levels of bikers, runners, hikers, and puppers. Just remember to keep Fido on a leash at all times. Aside from the Rudy Mine Trails, the expansive, 300-acre Ben Hawes Park is home to a large recreational park with playground equipment and open air shelters, an archery range, a sand volleyball court, the Ben Hawes Golf Course, and a gravity racing track that hosts the Owensboro Lions Club Soap Box Derby.

Residents of Dogwood Azalea love their community for being family-friendly and peaceful. A good place to spend a relaxing afternoon with Fido in this neighborhood is Moreland Park, where you can walk or jog along the paved trail and hang out at the open air shelter or picnic tables. From Yewell Heritage Park, you and your doggo can access the Adkisson Greenbelt, a 15-mile asphalt trail that encircles Owensboro. If all that walking has left you hungry, there are three places where you can grab a bite: Overflow Cafe, Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina, and Culver’s. Salsarita’s and Culver’s do not offer table service, so Fido will have to wait outside when you go in to order, though the latter has a drive-thru window.
