Camino La Tierra

The Frank S. Ortiz Dog Park is a paradise for dogs of any breed, age, and enthusiasm level. The whole park is 135 acres where your dog is allowed to be off leash and having fun. People from all over Santa Fe and beyond come to this park, but it’s the residents of Camino La Tierra who are most proud of their park. A note of caution: the park is not fenced, so dogs without good recall should only be let off leash deeper into the park, and away from cars. Remember to bring water for dogs and humans!!

City Center

If you’re looking for a different experience with your dog, head to City Center in Santa Fe for an art gallery experience like nothing your dog has seen before. The Andrew Smith Gallery is a restored Victorian era home turned into a feast for the eyes. It houses historic, classic, and contemporary photographs. While your dog might not see the appeal (most dogs prefer life action art to photography), they’re sure to love beating the Santa Fe heat with a trip indoors! Leashed dogs are welcome, and popular, in the Andrew Smith Gallery.

State Capitol

If you don’t want to step out of the heart of Santa Fe, you don’t have to. There’s a lot to see in this beautiful city, and the State Capitol neighborhood shines. You can start with a guided tour by Santa Fe Mountain Adventures and Walkabouts, which offers tours inside and outside the heart of the city. Leashed dogs under 100 lbs are welcome to join the tour! Nearby the Walkabout Headquarters is Sante Fe Railyard Park, a remodeled railroad area that now features 13 acres of trails and green space, perfect for when your dog needs a break fro the city streets. The park does host events, and there is a train still in use, so be aware if your dog is sensitive to noise.

Auga Fria

The neighborhood of Auga Fria in Santa Fe has two gorgeous places for dogs to stretch their legs. The first is the incredible Santa Fe Animal Shelter Park. This park, hosted by the animal shelter, provides lots of fenced in space for dogs to run and play. There are separate areas for large and small dogs, and a few single-use runs. These runs are for dogs who need to run, but aren’t friendly enough to put in with the pack. Auga Fria Park is more central to the neighborhood, and free for on-leash walking when you just need to burn some energy.

Hyde Park

Hyde Memorial State Park borders on the Hyde Park neighborhood of Santa Fe. This large park offers camping and day-use. The loop hiking trails are the main draw for hikers and dog-walkers alike. The steep terrain of the area makes every walk a workout, and some trails will result in over 1,000 feet of elevation change by the time you’re back where you started! Dogs must be leashed, but with all there is to sniff, see, and hear, that won’t be a problem for most inquisitive pooches.
