Central Leesburg

Who doesn't want a safe, enclosed place where their puppy can hang out with other well-behaved canines? Un-fur-tunately, Ranson doesn't have any dog parks of its own, but you'll find one 25 miles away in Leesburg, VA. Leesburg Dog Park offers an amazing off-leash area that your dog will appreciate. The ground is covered in mulch, and it can get muddy sometimes, so bring a towel if you don't want muddy paw prints in your car! Benches and picnic tables are available for the comfort of the human visitors, and shade is provided by the multiple trees in the park. Just don't forget to bring doggie waste bags.

Shenandoah University

Another pawssibility in the vicinity of Ranson is the Winchester Dog Park. You'll need a membership to play here, but daily passes are available for visitors. Your doggie can go wild in this fenced, off-leash area and sniff out some new friends! Nestled within Jim Barnett Park, the dog park provides drinking water and poop baggies for cleaning up your pup's messes. If you prefer to walk your dog on the trails outside of the fenced area, you can do so only if your dog is properly leashed. Within the dog park, there are benches and a picnic table where the humans can chit chat and rest while watching over their pups.

Gathland State Park

If you're looking for something a little different to do with your dog, visit Gathland State Park. This is a historic park with plenty of things to see and explore! Leashed dogs are welcome here. You can visit the War Correspondent's Arch or the South Mountain Battlefield to learn more about the park's history. There are also pavilions where you can share a picnic with your pup and friends. Or, pitch a tent and stay awhile at the campground! The combination of nature and historical monuments will fascinate you, and your pooch will have more than enough space to sniff and explore. Make sure you bring water, snacks, and doggie bags.

Twenty-three miles away from Ranson, you'll find the State Arboretum of Virginia, which is an extremely beautiful botanical garden. Not only are doggies allowed here, but they're also allowed to be off-leash as long as they're well-behaved! The place is simply magical -- it has open fields to run in, beautiful meadows to admire, and even two lakes to cool off in! The place even has a historical building that you can visit, as well as an herbal garden and plenty of space for a nice picnic with your pup. The arboretum has bathroom facilities for the human visitors, but you'll need to bring your own poop baggies.
