Hobie Island Beach Park
Hobie Island Beach Park is a unique find in Miami, as it is one of the only beaches within the city that welcomes dogs with open paws! Interestingly enough, this beach is located on the Rickenbacker Causeway that connects the Virginia Key barrier island to Miami, so it is often called Rickenbacker Causeway Beach. This man made beach is a hidden gem you won't want to miss out on.
Hobie Island Beach Park is a bay beach, so its waters are shallow and calm, making it pawfect for doggos! Dogs can roam both on and off leash, as long as you respect other visitors and keep your dog under voice control.Ā Not only can your pup trot along the beach, but they can also splash in the ocean. Just remember, it's a salt water beach, so bring drinking water for your pup to ensure they don't get dehydrated. Be sure to have clean-up bags in hand too, and always stoop and scoop.
This puptastic beach is also known for it's windsurfing. In fact, the beach is actually nicknamed "Windsurfer Beach" because of the popularity of the sport. Visitors come to the beach to learn to windsurf or to perfect their skills. At the beach, you will conveniently find an assortment of rental equipment, windsurfers, instruction sessions, paddle boards, kayaks and quad water bike rentals. Although the beach is long and narrow, it's the perfect spot for water sports and walking your pooch.
Other amenitiesĀ at the beach include restrooms and showers, though there are no showers for dogs. Admission to the beach is free, but there's a toll of $1.50 to cross the causeway to get to the beach if you are coming from Miami.Ā As the beach is one of the only dog friendly beaches in the Miami area, it can become quite busy. There is adequate parking, but arriving early, especially on weekends, is a good idea to guarantee a spot.
