Aryan Molossus Dog Names

Dogs like the protective Aryan Molossus have been used as guardians and in police work for over a century, and it is a practice done all over the world. It did not start out in the United States though. The English law enforcement department used Bloodhounds in 1888 to search for Jack the Ripper, and in 1899 the Belgium police started using them to help with their police work. By the early 1900s, Germany was utilizing police dogs in more than 600 of their most populous cities and in 1938, South London picked up two Labrador Retrievers to help their bobbies on the Metropolitan Police Force. 

The United States did not start using canines in their police departments until the 1970s, but now they are a part of the police force, some with their own badges and uniforms. The most commonly used dog breed in the police force is the German Shepherd and one doggo in particular, Midnight Sun, was one of the first. In fact, he may have been the very first police dog in the United States because it was 1926 when he was part of the police force. However, some say the first police dog was in 1907 in New York. 

Midnight Sun was a full-blooded purebred German Shepherd owned by W.H. Gragg, who brought his pup with him everywhere he went in his hometown of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. For such a small town, Okmulgee had a high crime rate, and law enforcement was having a rough time keeping up. When someone who knew of Midnight Sun suggested using him as a police partner, Captain Stewart was reluctant but decided it could be helpful. Gragg gave his permission, and the pooch was sent to a talented trainer of German Shepherds, Herr Benno Stein. 

Working alongside Captain Stewart, the brave pup quickly made a name for himself as an excellent partner with awesome reflexes, bravery, and loyalty. In fact, with Midnight Sun on duty, 18 criminals were captured in 1926, and he was in high demand by other law enforcement offices. And there were rumors that criminals decided to skip Okmulgee for good because it was too hard to get away with crimes with Midnight Sun on duty. 

His best capture on record was the Ice Pick Burglar, aka Henry Clay. Henry used an ice pick to cut a hole along the edges of screens and climbed into homes to steal women’s purses and men’s slacks. He went through the house tossing the pants and purses out onto the lawn and then he would go out and get whatever valuables he could find in them. When Midnight Sun was brought to the scene of one of Henry’s crimes, he was able to track him more than 15 blocks where police caught him and put him in jail for 18 years. Midnight Sun got a gold medal for that one.
