Bernese Mountain Dog Names

The family movie Good Boy is a light hearted film about a lonely boy named Owen who finally gets his wish to own a dog. He chooses Hubble, a scruffy Border Terrier and discovers that this dog is amazingly intelligent and actually came from outer space. Owen learns that thousands of years ago, dogs came to the planet Earth to colonize and dominate the planet. Hubble, who is really known on his home planet the Dog Star Sirius 7 as Canid 3942, has been sent on a mission to Earth to find out if the dogs have fulfilled their destiny. Sent by the powerful Greater Dane (voiced by Vanessa Redgrave) he has come to observe and report back. Owen has walked dogs to raise money to buy his dog, so he calls on the help of these dogs to convince Hubble that everything is fine and dogs are doing well on Earth. 

Among this group is Shep, a large and slightly gaseous Bernese Mountain Dog (voiced by Carl Reiner). While Shep and his team strive valiantly to pretend to Hubble that dogs rule the world, Hubble soon discovers the truth - they are all pets! Then to make matters worse, the mighty Greater Dane is heading for Earth. Owen, along with Hubble and Shep, work together with all the neighborhood dogs to try and convince the Greater Dane that dogs are world leaders, but the attempt fails miserably. The mighty Greater Dane is appalled at the dog's subservient role, and orders all dogs back to the planet Sirius. 

While Owen is repairing Hubble's communicator, he sends the dog a message declaring how much he loves him and how he will miss him terribly. The Greater Dane hears the message and speaks with Hubble about this thing called love. Hubble declares that the dogs and humans have formed a bond of love and loyalty. The ending is a happy one with a reprieve given to all of Earth's dogs, allowing them to remain on the planet as a separate species. The dog actors in this movie were fantastic, and the variety of dogs gave depth and authenticity to the movie. While Shep the Bernese Mountain Dog only played a supporting role, it was very memorable and secured him a place in popular culture. The movie accentuates the role of trust and loyalty that dogs form with their humans, and underlies the need for dogs in our culture. Imagine a world without the happy go lucky dog! It would be a colder, sadder place. Dogs always live for the present, they love to play, to walk, or just to cuddle. As long as a dog is with its owner, that is all they will ask... unless it is for a share of your biscuit of course!
