Black Magick Inspired Dog Names

For all intents and purposes, Black Shuck is a mascot for the Dark Arts in England. Centuries ago, Shuck was considered to be a familiar of Witches and Warlocks. While we've become much less superstitious as a society, most of us would steer clear of a Black Dog with crimson eyes. Nevertheless, there have been multiple reports of Black Shuck over the years - the first of which was made by Reverend E.S. Taylor. Indeed, it's Taylor who officially gave Black Shuck his name - as Black Shuck means "Black Devil" or "Black Fiend" in Old English. 

According to Reverend Taylor, he first encountered Black Shuck at a churchyard in the year 1850. The night was late, and the church's service had long since concluded. Taylor was alone at the old kirk, handling some busy work with the intention of heading home as well after finishing. When Taylor had to head out to the churchyard, he encountered Black Shuck for the first time. The dog stared at Taylor with unblinking eyes and stood as still and as motionless as a statue. Upon further inspection, Taylor noticed that the dog wasn't even breathing. 

Taylor somehow evaded Black Shuck's grasp and lived to tell the demon dog's tale. There was much skepticism at first, but more and more stories centered around Shuck started popping up. Residents from Norfolk, Suffolk, the Cambridge Fens, and Essex corroborated Taylor's story. Black Shuck's legend spread throughout Easter Brittain like wildfire. Search parties and mobs formed to try and capture Shuck, to no avail. The demon dog even made news headlines, with reporters urging citizens to avoid traveling at night. Centuries after Taylor died, Black Shuck's legend survived. Today, many people visit Eastern Brittain in search of Black Shuck. For their sake, we hope that Taylor's story was just a folk tale - for their sake, we hope they never do find Old Shuck.
