Budapest Dog Names

You cannot think of Budapest, Hungary without thinking of the genuinely iconic Puli dog. A herding breed, the large Puli has unique hair that grows in a cordlike fashion. Many people believe that the canine looks like a giant white or black cotton mop. The thick wooly cords of fur are waterproof which is an ideal characteristic for this all-weather herder. The dogs are incredibly agile and highly maneuverable despite their many cables of the coat hair. 

Nowadays, one of the most iconic dogs in the world is a Puli. Mark Zuckerburg, the founder of the billion-dollar social media giant Facebook purchased a Puli puppy with his wife Priscilla Chan in 2011. They dubbed the moplike dog, "Beast." Beast was born in Grants Pass, Oregon and living with the breeder when he was purchased by Zuckerburg. The puppy quickly went to live with his new owners in Palo Alto, California. 

Of course, being the creator of Facebook meant that Beast garnered his own social media page where the pooch has amassed over two million subscribers who log in regularly to see photos and blurbs about the white pooch. On the dog's profile page, his interests are listed as “Herding Things, Cuddling, Loving and Eating”.  Beast has become so popular that Facebook even released a sticker pack with the canine's likeness for users. In addition, the dog regularly accompanies his famous owners into Facebook headquarters. 

Beast has become a celebrity in his own right. Movie stars, actors, and other famous individuals have all been pictured with the white dog, including Cesar Milan and Cory Booker. 

When Mark and Priscilla tied the knot, Beast played an important part in the wedding. Friends and family believed they were attending a celebration because Priscilla had recently graduated from medical school, but when they saw Priscilla walking down the aisle with Beast, they knew that the couple had thrown a surprise wedding. 

In an article for Today, Mark's wife, Priscilla Chen, stated,  “So we have Beast, our Hungarian sheepdog and he is so talented. He’s so smart. He knows his daily schedule. He has an extracurricular activity. He goes herding. He herds sheep. And we’ve been told that he’s quite gifted.”  In the same interview, Mark said, “He’s, like, this ridiculously cute dog. He looks like a little sheep. He’s amazing.”  Undeniably, the billionaire Puli is well-loved by his owners. Chan stated,  “The dog is [Mark’s] second priority after Facebook.” The Zuckerburgs now have two children who Beast also adores and spends time with.
