Cabo Verde Dog Names

Down through the ages, pop culture in the forms of art, literature, film-making, and storytelling have revealed the weaving of the human/canine connection throughout all phases of our lives.  You’ll readily find famous dogs in the realm of search and rescue, service dogs, and family companions, the stories of their activities passed down from generation to generation, with the internet providing generous access to a vast store of information.  With the advent and increased popularity of social media platforms, it only makes sense that some of these canine cultural characters would find their way into our lives, in the form of whole pages devoted to stories of the lives of much-loved four-legged, furry friends, who add so much to our lives.

Our pop culture spotlight for today is Fogo, and he is one of those precious pooches who owns his own Facebook page, delighting many followers on a daily basis.   So, are you wondering why someone would want to initiate and maintain a Facebook page for a dog?  

Fogo shares his name with the most prominent volcano in the Cabo Verde archipelago, and, because he was born on that island in Cape Verde, his owner chose to apply the island’s name to him.  Fogo, born on February 8, 2004, currently lives in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, though he came into this world on the kitchen floor of a home in Cape Verde, on the island of Fogo.  His owner’s life was changed so much with the addition of Fogo to the family unit, that it was deemed appropriate to establish a Facebook page for Fogo and update it frequently.  On this social media page, you will find pictures of Fogo doing many “dog” things, like running, playing in the snow, playing in the cold waters of the Atlantic off Cape Cod, sniffing pine needles and investigating multitudes of ponds, bogs, and beaches.  There are pictures of celebrations of his annual birthday, to which several followers respond with well-wishes.  Fogo is depicted lounging by a warm fire after playing and walking in the snow, watching a July 4th parade in Orleans and even a Grateful Dead concert!  Scrolling through the pictures, you’ll likely wonder how he could seem so calm and patient while dressed up and photographed!
