Crimson Tide Inspired Dog Names

Bear is really the only character that Captain Ramsey is unconditionally kind towards. When things hit the fan, Ramsey treats Hunter as an outright nemesis. If any of his men protest his decisions, Ramsey won't hesitate to verbally chew them out. It's only his loyal dog Bear that he treats with love and respect at all times. In turn, Bear acts as Captain Ramsey's stalwart companion - essentially accompanying his master at all times and heeding Ramsey's every beck and call. This makes Bear something of a morality pet early in the film and a dog of war later on.

When the going gets tough in the second act of Crimson Tide, Bear gets going; he transforms from a simple lap dog to an outright attack dog. On numerous occasions, Bear proves himself to be a hindrance to Ron Hunter and his men during their attempts to commandeer Ramsey's vessel. Bear barks at Hunter and his crew in order to keep them from entering certain parts of the ship. When that doesn't work, Bear throws caution to the wind and starts trying to bite off the faces of Hunter and his party. None of the insane stunts that Bear performed would have been possible if this canine actor wasn't well trained and guided by an expert team of animal handlers. 

 The American Humane Society has commended the Crimson Tide team for the incredible performance they were able to bring out of Bear's actor without incurring any damage to the dog or any of the film's human actors. many of the tricks and stunts that Bear performed were accomplished by practical stunt work; no special effects or CGI, just good old fashioned hard work and training. Bear's actor is a Smooth Coated Jack Russell Terrier by the way - the same breed as the world famous canine actor, Max the Dog.
