There truly is a "Pool", as it were, for every occasion; throughout the Marvel multiverse, we've seen a female version of Deadpool, a Frankenstein amalgamation of Deadpool and Cable, a version of Deadpool that's really just Gwen Stacy in a costume, and now we present to you an iteration of the Merc with a Mouth in the dog named Wilson. Dogpool is the superhero alias of a stray dog that Deadpool found on Earth-103173. Labelled as the Merc with a Bark, Dogpool was recruited by Earth 616's Deadpool to serve as a member of his Deadpool Corps and help them all deal with an imposing adversary. While you might be worried about the prospect of a dog being recruited to fight in a war, you should also know that Dogpool is an ordinary dog by no stretch of the imagination.

As with many of the other iterations of Deadpool, the Dogpool's name is Wilson; Wilson was once a normal stray dog who sadly roamed around the streets of his world in search of his next meal. Wilson had no master, no friends, and no family to count on back in those dark days. All Wilson could rely on were his keen senses and the fickle whims of fate. And, overtime, Wilson learned he that couldn't even rely on either of those things all that much.

In the same way that Wade Wilson got his powers from a series of twisted experiments, Dogpool received his powers due to a deranged test of sorts; an unstable cosmetic care item called "Mascara X" was tested on Wilson, one fateful day. Mascara X was an experimental lipstick that was intended to replenish after being wiped off by its wearer, effectively making it irremovable. But when tested on Wilson, Mascara X had the unfortunate side effect of making the dog unkillable. Indeed, Wilson's newfound immortality was more of a curse than a blessing as the poor dog was rendered susceptible to many brand new forms of scientific torture. It would be some time before Wilson was rescued by this cruel fate by Earth 616's Deadpool in a bid to increase the ranks of the Deadpool corps.

Wilson didn't entirely grasp why Deadpool was trying to recruit him, but the weary dog eagerly accepted the opportunity to become part of a family again. Wilson was recruited into the Deadpool Corps not long after meeting Deadpool, where he was given the name Dogpool by the Merc with a Mouth.

Deadpool Inspired Dog Name Considerations

Simply put, Deadpool is one of the funniest characters Marvel comics has ever created; Deadpool's unique ability to break the fourth wall, along with his questionable sanity levels that are likely the result of the brutal experiments he's been through, have caused Deadpool to become increasingly popular since his first appearance in Marvel comics' The New Mutants issue number 98, all the way back in February 1991. Since then, many characters have appeared in Deadpool's comic book series that either have unique name (such as Ajax) from the get go or that have "unique" names that have been given to them by the Merc with a Mouth himself (Deadpool just loves calling the Wolverine "Stabby" whenever he gets the chance.)
