Doc McStuffins Inspired Dog Names

Doc was the mixed breed pooch on "Grey’s Anatomy." This long-haired pup looked like a cross between an Old English Sheepdog and some kind of large terrier, but we are not sure about that. "Grey’s Anatomy" is a hit television show on ABC that started on March 27, 2005, and is still a popular show. The medical drama follows Meredith Grey and the lives and loves of surgical residents, interns, and their attending physicians as they learn how to be proper doctors while falling in and out of love with each other. 

In the second season, Meredith’s fuiend and roommate, Izzie, was sad about losing a young patient so they go to the animal shelter and adopt Doc. Unfortunately, Doc did not like Izzie or George, their other roommate and friend, and terrorized them every chance he got. He would eat their laundry, pee on Izzie’s bed, and growled at George every time he went near Meredith. Eventually, Meredith chose to give her furry friend to Derek, who was a doctor she dated a few times and will eventually marry. 

In one of the most memorable episodes with Doc, it is Christmastime and Izzie has decorated a tree and at the end of the evening, Izzie, Meredith, and George are laying under it when Doc comes and lays with them. Although Doc goes to live with Derek and his estranged wife, Addison, Meredith continues to visit the pooch and they even meet in the park several times to walk him together. Some say that it was Doc who was responsible for Derek and Meredith getting back together. 

At the end of the second season, the show reveals that Doc is sick and Derek takes him to the veterinarian for tests. Although he is allowed to take Doc home while they wait on the test results, the veterinarian, Finn, who Meredith also ends up dating, believes that it is serious. Derek brings him back that night because he is not eating and Finn tells him that Doc has bone cancer. Meredith rushes to the veterinarian’s office to see Doc and talk to the veterinarian about options. 

Finn tells them that they can treat Doc with radiation and chemotherapy but that he would most likely die anyway and that it may be more humane to let him die peacefully before it gets too painful. Derek and Meredith agree and share a close moment while they sit with their pup as he passes away. Doc also shows up in Season 3 as a ghost dog when Meredith drowns and is pronounced dead for a few minutes and in season 15 as Meredith remembers those who she has lost on the Day of the Dead. And he may just show up again in future episodes.
