Dog Names Ending in ess

Included in the book called Dog Heroes by Ben Holt, Bess is a K-9 detective and specializes in missing persons. Police officer Todd Wright has put a lot of trust into his German Shepherd working dog, and this trust has saved many lives.

Elizabeth, a Chatham, Kent nursing home resident of 84 years-old, was unable to be found at lunchtime. When she was discovered to be missing, Bess and her owner were notified. Even though the organized search party was going to begin the search the next morning, Bess and Ted decided to get an early start, so Bess would not be disturbed by others around.

Bess, a Bloodhound, searched in the morning and into the afternoon through brush, thorns, and other elements. She found Elizabeth, 27 hours since she was discovered missing, under a bush in an alley next to the nursing home. Elizabeth was sent to the hospital and was treated. She ended up being just fine thanks to the heroic undertaking and success of Bess!

This isn't the only case in which Bess has assisted. She has helped in more than 40 cases, and has actually located five missing persons due to her talent, intelligence, and diligence. 

A dog with a similar name, Tess, has also had spotlight in the news. Tess lives in St. George, Utah, and is a Washington County K-9 Deputy dog. In the August 2017 edition of the St. George News, she was featured in a story. Tess performed a heroic event with her handler when she responded to a carjacking. Tess was shot while working during the event and had to be transported by LifeFlight.

The Belgian Malinois has worked for over four years for the department and took the bullet instead of the police officer. She saved his life while risking her own. She took a bullet through her mouth and it exited through the neck, and she had a successful surgery. She was able to perform her duties as a K-9 deputy dog by October. Tess has since retired, not because of the incident, but because her handler took another job. She has since been adopted and is living a good life with her new owner out of the line of duty.

Today, both dogs continue to live the lives they deserve. K-9 dogs like these two have such talent and intellect that many people don't realize, and when anyone increases their knowledge and understanding of what K9 dogs do throughout their career, from how they are trained to their actual talents and intellects, they appreciate what they do for others.
