Dog Names Meaning Eager

In the show, Danny Tanner, known to be a clean freak, shocked viewers when he agreed to let the girls adopt a pint-sized Golden Retriever. The pooch was dubbed 'Comet' after the cleaning product favored by Tanner. Fans of the show immediately embraced the darling dog's character, and he was dubbed the 'fourth Tanner child' by many. At first, Comet was not meant to have a significant role in the sitcom, but his popularity created a niche that was undeniable, so writers scrambled to develop stories that showcased the eager pooch and his role in the family. One entire episode was even dedicated to a day in the life of Comet. It depicted Comet meeting a striking female Collie and making a date with the female canine. 

Audiences couldn't help but sit in awe during the episode when Comet celebrated his birthday with the Tanner family and eagerly blew out the candle on his birthday cake. The repertoire between the kids and Comet was tangible. Many episodes showcased the girls talking to Comet as if he was a real human. Comet would often respond, such as the time that Stephanie asked him what he thought of her new eyeglasses and he immediately looked away ducking his head. Although the dog did not verbally speak, the audience and small Stephanie knew by his actions that he did not like her glasses. 

Another critical episode featured Danny trying to tell Comet to sit, but the dog refused to listen. However, when tiny Michelle commanded the pooch to take a seat, he immediately sat down. Such actions indeed showed the close bond between the girls and the canine. The character of Comet was played by a doggy actor named Buddy. Interestingly, Buddy was a talented actor, but he was also a bit naughty. It was not uncommon for Buddy to be behind the scenes chewing up a variety of things. Undeniably, Buddy was a talented and highly trained dog who was an essential character on the hit sitcom. After the show aired its final episode in 1995, Buddy went on to play in the hit film Air Bud. After filming, he was diagnosed with cancer and would lose his leg to the malignancy. He eventually passed away in 1998 after the sarcoma metastasized.
