Dog Names Meaning Humble

The black and tan Dachshund named Crusoe is an Instagram sensation, but you could not tell it from looking at the humble pooch. This 12-pound dog makes his home in Nepean where he lives in a small townhouse with his owners. Five years ago, the pooch and his owners moved to Ottawa, and the dog gained internet fame virtually overnight. 

One evening, Ryan Beauchesne, Crusoe's owner, posted a few photos. The pictures were an instant social media sensation. It was at that time Crusoe's owner honestly saw the small dog's potential. Beauchesne has quit his job as a digital marketer so that he can devote all of his time to managing the humble Dachshund. 

Interestingly, Beauchesne was not always a fan of Crusoe's. Beauchesne said in an interview with Ottawa Citizen, “I always thought I was a big-dog person. But my girlfriend bugged me for a year for a Dachshund, and I gave in. At first, I was embarrassed to walk down the street with a wiener dog.”  Now Beauchesne spends his days taking photos of Crusoe in a variety of costumes to post on social media and the dog's blog. Crusoe's blog is a collection of humble stories and videos that are always told from the small dog's perspective. Each one showcases his unique personality beautifully. “He’s small in body but big in character,” said Beauchesne. He’s also a goofball, a Habs fan, and a cheese connoisseur."

Crusoe now has an Instagram following of 173,000 people, and his Facebook page has received a million likes. He has been the star of numerous viral videos that showcase him doing human-like activities that endear him to many Canadians' hearts. One of his most famous videos received 45 million views and showed the tiny dog playing hockey. 

Recently, Crusoe authored a New York Times best-selling book titled, "Adventures of the Weiner Dog Extraordinaire." The book has had phenomenal success with both adults and children. 

The small dog is also going to go on an official Canada-wide tour as the spokesdog for #NoBiteIsRite – a campaign raising awareness about preventing ticks and tick bites on pets. The subject of ticks is very dear to the Crusoe's heart after his owner discovered a tick on the tiny dog during a full body massage. Many ticks carry dangerous diseases that can infect not only dogs but also humans, so Crusoe's owners hope that the little dog will be the perfect pooch to drive home the importance of applying tick repellent products to dogs and other pets.
