Dog Names Meaning Proud

Dogs have been used in war for centuries. The United States has often utilized proud canines to serve alongside soldiers in numerous battles. The Devil Dogs of World War I were used to serve alongside U.S. Marines during the campaigns into Europe. The canines were treated similarly to their human counterparts and even given ranks. During the infamous Battle of the Bulge, the canines served as scouts and fighters. They were fearless and filled with pride. After that, it was reported that the soldiers would never fight without canines by their sides. 

Canine soldiers would proudly serve throughout every war or military movement ever undertaken by the U.S. Eventually, dogs were even inducted into the prestigious U.S. Seal Teams. One dog, a Belgian Malinois known as Cairo, would become famous as one of the members of Seal Team Six who took down the terrorist Osama bin Laden. The military dog was a proud team member of the elite military outfit. He was highly trained to undertake each and every mission with self-assurance and bravery. The dog had been trained to do whatever was required. He could slide down a rope 500 feet, jump from a helicopter, track, or take down the enemy without hesitation. 

Unlike many K-9s, Cairo was not afraid of the roar of a helicopter. He would readily climb into the chopper without hesitation and even happily ride. During the ride, the proud canine's adrenaline would start to pump throughout his body and when it was time to disembark the helicopter, the dog was on the offensive and ready for whatever lay ahead. 

On the night that Cairo leaped from the helicopter to follow his fellow soldiers into the unknown mission of taking out bin Laden, he was reported to be fearless. He stood guard on the perimeters with his handler He was equipped with a Kevlar vest, harnesses that could be used for rappelling and parachuting, and a state-of-the-art night-vision camera with a 180-degree field of vision. 

After the fateful and historic mission, Cairo would have the honor of meeting the President of the United States. Now, Cairo is retired and lives with his handler Lloyd. The dog maintains a low-profile life as a family dog. He helps with chores around the house such as bringing in the groceries and even putting them away. 

Undoubtedly, the key that set Cairo apart was his proud, self-assured disposition. When Cairo's trainer was asked about how he picked out the distinctive pooch as a puppy he said that Cairo stood out because he was not in the front of the group of puppies jumping for attention. Instead he sat back with a smug and confident air about him.
