Dog Names that Start with Co

The canine species possess an incredible capacity for loyalty toward their human families and even toward each other.  As you research the history of dogs over the centuries, you will see how they were utilized to guard families, children, livestock and other property.  Loyalty and dependability are two traits which continue to endear dogs even today and our pop culture spotlight today typifies them.  Today, we are looking at Constantine, a German Shepherd Dog, who lived in Tolyatti, Russia in the mid-1990's.  In 1995, Constantine, or "Kostya" as the people called him, was riding in a car with his masters, described as a man and a girl.  The car was in a vehicular accident, and the girl died at the scene, while the man died later in the hospital where they took him for medical care.  Constantine was the only survivor of the car crash.  Not long after the unfortunate crash, residents of the area began to notice a German Shepherd Dog at the edge of South Highway, which is said to be a bypass roadway in the Auto Factory district of that town that ultimately took you to the AvtoVAZ car factory.   The dog was "always in the same spot" and was noted to rush the passing cars.  

As word about Constantine spread, the residents of the town became interested in him, building dog houses and trying to adopt him on an informal basis.   The reason for his presence established as deeper research confirmed the car crash and the deaths of the other occupants of the car.  Not knowing what to call him, the residents dubbed him "Kostya" which is a diminutive form of Constantine which means faithful, steadfast and constant.  In honest and loving attempts to care for the displaced dog, people built doghouses and took him into their homes for adoptive purposes.  When none of this worked, they tried putting him into animal shelters for his protection.  Constantine would not stay in any of their dog houses, homes or shelters; taking only food from them.  He would instead come daily to the exact spot where his family had died and watched passing cars, running alongside some of them.  They believed that the dog was searching for his masters, hoping for their return.  He became a familiar sight along that road, and those that lived and traveled that road came to love him.  He would be there in that same spot, rain or shine, heat or cold, watching and waiting expectantly.  He followed this same routine every day for seven years without fail.  In 2002, Constantine was found dead in the woods, though the cause of death remains unclear.  The residents of the town were all saddened by the news of Constantine's death.  A monument was erected to honor his loyalty and faithfulness, starting first with a billboard which was frequently damaged by storms or vandals and ultimately a bronze statue marking the permanent place when he waited for his master's return.
