Dog Names That Start With Ed

Found in virtually every aspect of our pop culture, dogs appear in television, films, children's books and movies, adult books, and magazines, all types of art, from ancient times to present, and TV sitcoms.  Our pop culture spotlight for today comes from a TV sitcom which ran for 11 seasons as well as from a movie.  Frasier is the sitcom, which ran from September 16, 1993, to May 13, 2004, and My Dog Skip is the movie, released on January 8, 2000.  

The dog is Moose, a Jack Russell Terrier who played the role of "Eddie" in the Frasier sitcom and played "Skip" in the movie, My Dog Skip.  Moose was born in Florida in 1990 on Christmas Eve, the youngest and the most sizable of the litter of pups.  His original owners were unable to handle this feisty little package, with obedience training even being mostly unsuccessful.  Frequently getting into trouble by chasing cats, climbing trees, escaping, digging holes, destroying property, and running after horses, his incorrigible mischievousness resulted in the surrender of our hero by his initial pet parents to a local dog pound.  In what could be considered the hand of God, Moose ended up being adopted by a Los Angeles dog trainer, Mathilde Halberg, who worked for a company who dealt with show-business animals. She saved him from euthanasia in the early 1990's, an action which changed his life. 

When one must deal with any being, human or canine, who possesses seemingly unlimited amounts of energy and spunk, one must learn to focus those energies into activities which allow it's elimination more naturally.  This focusing of pep is what Matilde did, calming him down so much that within about six months of training, Moose found himself cast in the Fraiser role of a dog belonging to retired policeman Marty Crane.  For those who were fans of Frasier when it was playing on TV, it is likely that you quickly became enamored of "Eddie," as he became one of the favorite characters in the 11 season TV series.  The other actors who played opposite "Eddie" never cease to proclaim with ease and professionalism with which he carried out his role in the production.  This heralding was evidenced in 1994 when Kelsay Grammer won an Emmy for best actor in a comedy, he held up the statue and acknowledged Moose's contribution, saying "Most importantly, Moose, this is for you!"
