Dog Names that Start with Kr

Animated dogs have been working squirming their way into the hearts of viewers for decades. Krypto the Superdog came to the Cartoon Network on March 25, 2005 and was based on the character Krypto created by DC Comics. Krypto’s voice was provided by Samuel Vincent. Krypto is the former pet of Superman before Krypton was destroyed. This amazing dog was given the same powers as Superman including the same morals and feelings. Krypto does have superior hearing and sense of smell because of his canine status. Krypto the Superdog was produced by Warner Brothers Animation and DC Comics. It was then picked up by Kids’ WB in September of 2006, however, Kids’ WB only aired 30 episodes from season one instead of the full 51 episodes. After the television show was cancelled, a comic book series was then published by DC Comics. The comic books were based on the television series and were printed under the Johnny DC name. 

In the television series, Krypton is about to be destroyed when Jor-El, Superman’s father, creates a spaceship and sends Krypto on a test flight to ensure the ship is safe to send his son to safety. However, Krypto is a rather precocious pup and presses some buttons that he should not press. Krypto lands on Earth as a mature dog with interesting super-powers instead of the pup he was when he left Krypton. Through the course of the series, we see Krypto being adopted by a young boy named Kevin Whitney. Superman, of course, had a hand in Krypto living with Kevin. Just like his human counterpart, Krypto poses as just an ordinary dog, however, when the need arises, he quickly turns into the Superdog. Only Superman and Kevin know that Krypto is Superdog. Krypto is a white dog of nonspecific pedigree and when he is in the Superdog character, he is seen wearing a gold collar with the Superman “S” on the dog tag and he also wears a dog-sized Superman cape.

In other versions of Krypto the Superdog, Krypto is the sidekick of Superman or Superboy and is seen exploring space when he is not Earth posing as a normal dog. Krypto has also been portrayed as the Kent family dog named Skip, not Krypto. In one version of the comic, Krypto is given a dyed brown spot on his back being used as a disguise. Krypto is able to use his heat vision to remove the brown spot when he needs to assume the character of Superdog. No matter which version of Superdog that you have seen, it is safe to say that this amazing dog will emblazon that bold “S” right onto your heart and you will fall in love with his kindhearted ways.
