Dog Names that Start with La

Remember when you were a kid and your mum used to tell you a story about this famous dog who went through thick and thin to come back home? Remember when you first saw the movie about this doggo? Remember how it made you feel? If the answer is yes, you can’t be thinking of no one else but the dear old Lassie, probably the first famous dog you have heard of, but definitely the one that you can never forget.

Lassie is an adorable Rough Collie who first saw the light of day in a novel called Lassie Come Home written by Eric Knight. Actually, before Lassie became a star of the novel, she was first featured in Knight’s short story published back in 1938 in The Saturday Evening Post. Soon after that, in 1943, our lovely Collie’s story was transferred onto the silver screen in her very own movie starring the Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor and Rodd McDowall. The movie is set in Depression era Yorkshire where the Carraclough family was forced to sell their beloved doggo Lassie to a Duke who always found her to be an exceptionally beautiful dog. However, the young boy called Joe becomes depressed after his dog was taken away from him, and he is not the only one who feels that way! Lassie did not like her new home and was longing for the companionship and friendship she shared with Joe, so she finds a way to escape from the kennel and go back to her best friend.

Frustrated by this, the Duke decides to take Lassie all the way to Scotland and give her to his granddaughter Priscilla, played by the queen herself, Elizabeth Taylor. However, Priscilla is a sweet girl who quickly figures out that Lassie is not happy where she is and that she misses her original owner, so she helps her escape and go back to her family. Finally free, Lassie ventures onto her long journey home. Along the way she encounters many obstacles, such as pesky dog catchers, but also meets many nice people who help her by feeding her and giving her a place to sleep.

In the end, the adorable doggo manages to find her way back home. The devastated Joe, who though he would never see his puppy again, was over the moon when he saw her, and they lived happily ever after!
