Dog Names that Start with Sk

Skip is a Jack Russell Terrier who was the star of the 2000 Warner Brothers film “My Dog Skip,” which starred Diane Lane, Luke Wilson, Kevin Bacon, and Frankie Muniz. This movie is based on the autobiographical book written by Willie Morris who tells the story of when he is given a dog for his ninth birthday and how Skip (the dog) changed his life. 

In the movie, Willie Morris plays an adult who is looking back at his childhood in the early 1940s when Willie was given a puppy named Skip for his birthday. His father, Jack, is a war veteran who is tough and standoffish while his mother, Ellen, is outgoing and talkative but Willie is an only child with no friends. 

His only real companion is the young man next door, Dink Jenkins, who is a local Mississippi sports hero. Soon, Dink is drafted to go to war, and Ellen decides to buy Willie a dog to help with his loneliness. The puppy’s outgoing nature helps Willie make friends with a girl named Rivers, who is the prettiest girl in school. 

Unfortunately, Willie is being bullied by several boys at school, Spit, Henjie, and Big Boy, who challenge him to play a game of football to get back some of his items that Dink sent him from the war. Skip actually helps Willie win the game, and he gets back his things, but then the bullies tell Willie that he has to stay the night in a graveyard to be a part of their group. 

While Willie is there at the graveyard with Skip, they see some moonshiners loading crates into a crypt and Skip jumps onto one of them when he thinks Willie is in danger. The men grab Skip, and Willie hits one of them with an acorn with his slingshot. The men catch both Willie and Skip and tell them not to move until sunrise, or they will kill the dog. 

The men leave after a while, and Willie is welcomed into the boys’ group since he stayed all night. When Willie is playing in his first ball game, Dink, who has been kicked out of the army, promises to come but does not show up. Willie loses the game because he is so upset, and Skip runs out onto the field to cheer him up. However, Willie is frustrated and smacks his pup, causing him to run away. 

Willie cannot find Skip after the game, and Dink shows up and helps him look for the pooch. They find him in the graveyard where the moonshiners have found him by the crypt. Dink is able to help save Skip but not until after he is hit by a shovel by one of the men. They take Skip to the vet where he makes a full recovery, and everyone is happy again.
