Dogo Canario Dog Names

The Dogo Canario has gotten a bit of a bad reputation because of their extensive use within dog fighting rights and their stubborn nature. The Dogo Canario, with the right handler and training, can be a loving, devoted companion. However, in the wrong hands or with an inexperienced handler, they can become aggressive and even kill other animals and humans. An exceptional Dogo Canario named Titan, became the center of attention when he was showcased at the Connecticut Humane Society. At the time, Titan was two and half years old and already had much heartache in his life. He lost his home when his family separated and his owner moved into a very small apartment. The new landlord was also against large, potentially aggressive dogs such as the Dogo Canario. Titan’s best buddy was an autistic child. Titan was this child’s best friend and guardian. He could be found every night sleeping with the child to provide comfort throughout the night. 

Since being relinquished to the Connecticut Humane Society, Titan’s physical and mental health has deteriorated. He is not accustomed to kennel life and has found the transition to be almost too much. Titan began showing signs of kennel aggression and was facing euthanasia. Roman Gottfried of Holistic Pet Services, located in Greenwhich, Connecticut, was contacted to come evaluate Titan as a potential candidate for his program. Gottfried liked what he saw and felt Titan would be just the dog to work with another family with special needs in the area. Titan was taken to Gottfried’s kennel, training and boarding facility, to undergo several weeks of intense training before being introduced to his new friend, a child with autism. The Connecticut Animal House, the organization responsible for Titan’s freedom from the Humane Society and his transport to Gottfried’s facility set up a donation page for Titan. All donations collected were used toward caring for and boarding Titan during his training.
