Introduction

The television show ER was a medical drama series that was originally created by Michael Crichton, the author of works such as The Andromeda Strain, Sphere, and Jurassic Park. It was based on Crichton’s time as a medical student and revolved around the doctors and nurses who worked at the fictional County General Hospital in Chicago, IL. The show was fast-paced and could go from merely intriguing to emotionally wrenching in a matter of seconds, and often did. It was the second longest-running primetime medical drama in the United States, with only Gray’s Anatomy lasting longer, and during its fifteen seasons on the air, it earned one hundred and sixteen awards, including several Screen Actor Guild Awards, Primetime Emmys, and even a Peabody Award.

ER Inspired Dog Name Considerations

There are several ways in which to select a name for a new canine companion. Some individuals may choose a name that describes the dog’s physical appearance, names like Goldie for a golden coated dog, Pipsqueak for a small one, or Curly for one with a curly coat. Others may consider a name that fits the dog’s circumstances, such as Chance for a dog that came from a shelter, or Ranger for a dog going into Search and Rescue or Police work.

Another option is to choose a name based on a favorite book, movie, or television show, such as the television show ER. ER was a very long-running television show with a constantly shifting cast. The characters were dynamic and diverse, giving new pet parents that were fans of the show several opportunities for inspiration. Owners of no-nonsense, driven dogs may choose to name their pets after characters such as doctors Gregory Pratt, Kerry Weaver, or Cleo Finch, while those that have a sunnier disposition may be better suited to names like Randi,  Doug, or Lucy. Those naming differently-abled dogs may also find inspiration for their pets here, such as the name Reece for a deaf dog, after Peter Benton's deaf son, or Rocket for a dog with missing limbs, after Dr. Robert Romano, who was often referred to as Rocket.
