Spitz

Spitz, the Beagle! He's one of Boggis's guard dogs, of which he has 14. These hunting beagles have one mission in life, and that's to protect Boggis's chickens from foxes and thieves. Each one is brown and white, and ready for work at all times. But of course, there are obstacles. The main protagonist in the film is Mr. Fox, after all. And he has to get around them to steal chickens and provide for his family. In order to do it, he feeds each one a blueberry laced with tranquilizer, which of course, the Beagles eat up eagerly and fall asleep.

But Spitz is probably the most well-known of all the Beagles. Mainly because he has an unfortunate characteristic: chronic rabies, which he's on medication for. He takes 10 mg of a fictional rabies drug called phenomoxylcarbobubytol. He sits inside the gate of Bean Annex, Franklin Bean's place. He's one of the three main antagonists in the movie, and a farmer.

To get to his apple cider, the foxes need to get past Spitz. And think about that: getting past Spitz involves running the risk of getting rabies. That's terrifying! Especially since in one of the scenes, Mr. Fox has to face him head on, and hand him a dog bone to put him to sleep. In the scene, Spitz has the classic rabies white foaming mouth. He's standing at the gate, quietly looking at Mr. Fox. He doesn't move an inch, just keeps staring at the fox the whole time.

Of course, that means Mr. Fox has to walk toward him, his arm extended outward toward the dog in order to give him the dog bone. But when he does this, Spitz sees his chance. Suddenly, he begins to shake with uncontrollable rage, his eyes get bloodshot red, and he begins barking up a storm, foam flying everywhere. And he chases Mr. Fox, making him scream in horror.

But everything turns out fine in the end, because being the protagonist, Mr. Fox gets away. And not only does he get away, he also leads his family and the rest of his animal friends through a drain opening built into the floor of a supermarket owned by the three farmers. In the end, the animals all have a new food source, which means they don't need to keep stealing chickens and dodging all the Beagles. It also means they won't need to keep an extra eye out for Spitz anymore.
