Finland Dog Names

A well-known canine face is that of the first dog of Finland, named Lennu. The dog of Finland’s president, Sauli Niinistö, is a Boston Terrier who accompanies his owner pretty much everywhere. It is said that Lennu has an amazing smile; apparently the pooch has even received a doggie proposal on Twitter. Lennu has been making headlines in Finland for some time and has even sat for interviews. His fame reached new heights, however, after reporter Kelly Weill of the Daily Best posted photos of him on Twitter. The tweet received more than 100,000 likes and over 38,000 shares. Lennu appears to always be smiling and looks great in his photos. So popular is the pooch that a café in central Helsinski, Café Esplanad, has designed a special cake in Lennu’s honor. As Niinistö campaigned for reelection in 2018, many of Lennu’s fans were disappointed that he did not play more of a role in his campaign.

Other well-known dogs in Finland are those of Finland’s premier dog sledding company, Hetta Huskies. Located in Finnish Lapland inside the Arctic Circle, their farm began operating in the winter of 2008-2009 and has become one of the top farms when it comes to dog health and welfare standards. The dogs that reside on the farm embark on sled-dog safaris that can take you to the northernmost reaches of Europe’s ancient boreal forest as well as the high plateaus of the Arctic tundra. The farm includes over 200 dogs, most of which are Alaskan Huskies, though there are also Siberian Huskies in residence and two primitive Siberian breeds; Taimurs and Nenet Laika crosses. Hetta Huskies website describes they efforts that they go through to take care of their dogs. As described, some dogs that are bred on the farm turn out to not be particularly interested in working as sled dogs. These dogs are then offered for adoption outside of the farm. This is also the case for retired sled dogs, as well as those with health issues. Each dog who is unable to work pulling the sleds is given the opportunity to find a family to enjoy life with. In addition to the opportunity to adopt one of these pups, visitors can also choose to sponsor a dog, ensuring that their needs are met as they live out his life comfortably.
