Our spotlight dog is known as Copper the Dog. He has a rather small circle of followers, but his story is important all the same. Copper is a hound dog - which makes his story so appropriate to Disney's The Fox and the Hound. He is a Beagle, and he is a beautiful, reddish-copper color (hence the name).

Copper is not special just because he is a hound and he happens to share the name of the lead character on the Disney film in question. Copper is a rescue dog. While it is unclear just how Copper made it to the facility, he was adopted from the Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee, Florida. He now resides with his family in Florida. Since he was adopted from the Big Dog Ranch Rescue, Copper has come to enjoy taking long walks with his new family. He also enjoys visiting the local dog park, but, most of all, he enjoys snuggling on the couch. The Big Dog Ranch is a non-profit rescue with the goal of giving a good life to as many dogs as possible. Copper the Dog is most definitely a success story of the Big Dog Ranch Rescue!

Another rather well-known dog named Copper belongs to former Bachelorette candidate, Rachel Lindsay. Lindsay introduced her special pup to Bachelor Peter on a 2017 episode. Of course, the audience nationwide became enthralled with the pup as he was not only adorable, but appeared as an injured pup as well. You see, Copper appeared on the show with his right front paw in a cast. Rachel explained during the episode that Copper broke a toe while jumping off something. Many fans tweeted their adoration for Copper on Ms. Lindsay's account. Some even suggested that Copper was a "quality man," and that he should be the recipient of the winning rose.

Another perusal of Facebook will net the find of yet another Copper the Dog. This Copper is known as "Copper the Farm Dog," and he is famous for an under bite which his owner claims is one "only a mother could love." While Copper the Farm Dog's exact breed is unknown, he has found happiness in a family with other dogs, cats, and even a few chickens.

The Fox and the Hound Dog Name Considerations

Certainly, when considering the beloved Disney film The Fox and the Hound, one cannot deny that any hound dog breed is suitable for a name inspired by the classic film. This would include any type of hound from the typical hunters such as the Beagle, the Coonhound, and the Black and Tan Hound all the way to more unlikely hounds such as the Afghan Hound, the Basenji, and Borzoi. Of course, one very unsuspecting breed - but a hound nevertheless - is the Dachshund, who is often called the Badger Hound. The Dachshund was bred as a scent hound with short, powerful legs just right for digging his prey out of its burrows.

One particular dog breed that would almost deserve a name inspired by Disney's The Fox and the Hound is the American Foxhound. Ironically enough, Copper is a Coonhound. Therefore, since Tod is a fox, giving an American Foxhound a name inspired by the iconic film certainly seems appropriate.
